Proof that everything wakes up at its own schedule

The nice warm and humid weather has done good things for my plumerias. Each one is in its own stage of growth where some have a few inflos and leaves, and others are pusing inflos and tiny leaves and some just have shiny tips and a hint of an inflo.

A Penang Peach which bloomed until December still holding last year's leaves finally starts leaves and an inflo

Hello EVeryone, Mike...You are doing everything right..I responded to your thread..on what I do with mine...Like Bill suggest..I use epsom salt once I bring them outside..or into the temps greenhouse...then a few weeks later..i fertilize with reduced strenght...also use fish emulsion and seaweed extract...i also mix in some b-1 and superthrive...I actually use superthrive everytime i water....These trees have their own personality...I have seen some strange things with mine...some have produced inflos..then the new branches that have formed from the split have new inflos...it just depends on how they are in the growth phase...they will produce inflos when they decide to!! Dave..I keep my DR's in the greatroom with the other tropicals...i do not keep them tucked away like the Plumeria..but they naturally drop their leaves and just stay in a somewhar dormant phase...I do water maybe once a month..more so than the Plumeria...They just hang out with the other plants in my room..average temp in here is 69*..or when I turn it up to 70* without my hubby seeing me turn up the thermostate!! LOL..really they just are happy where they are..I don't move them at all either...I did experimnet with one of them and cut back some of the limbs a few weeks ago...now they are putting out new branches...so i will probably trim them up just a little before I put them ot for the spring...My limbs are still green and look strong...I think one of the keys is to just let them be..just like the plumeria..if we try and mother them to much they tend to act up on us...I learned this the hard way...Bill has taught me from the get go that we have to just let the do their own thing and just monitor them... How to 'water-proof' my own cut wood?

I have aquariums as well, and I'm curious what allows some woods to not rot underwater while others rot quickly. Is it density? Ph of Wood? minerals in wood? Some chemical treatment (I doubt there is a magic one). How about others like: Ironwood? IT looks beautiful. Fruit wood like apricot or peach? Citrus? Manzanita - I think this is pretty good. My aquarium shop guys soaks some wood underwater to make it sink.He has some really wicked looking wood that looks like grapewood, but is ok under water, beautiful knarled wood, I am trying it with my vivarium, ok so far. Not sure what it is, my aquarium good is sorta mysterious about, probably cause he knows he has some good stuff. MAYBE soaking it causes it to get so full of water MAYBE it should be soaked in a weak bleach solution to disinfect the wood or for it to react in some way. Formaldeyhyde is used because it chemically cross links organic molecules so there is no food for bacteria left in it. I would not recomend it as it is toxic, but maybe there is a similar process that can be used. Bleach will dilute out after soaking with more water. I will try to ask my fish store guy more about this.

Most of the time I wake up before my 5:30 AM alarm goes off. Up, turn on the TV, and the computer, get dressed, read email and the paper online while eating breakfast. Then, peek in here at the KT, and on facebook, and get ready to go to work. If I ride my bike I leave the house 15 minutes earlier than if I drive. I work till 1:30 PM officially, but most times don't get out till after 2:00 I return to my bed after the 10:00 PM news and start the whole fun scenario again. :) Moni

My husband routinely gets up by 5 if he is not working. If he is working, he is up at 3 or 4. On the days he doesn't work, he goes and has coffee at a little convenience store that has a few booths, with some of the local farmers and ranchers. I wake up when he does but I go back to sleep for an hour or so. I wake up on my own between 6:30 and 7. I don't set an alarm....I just wake up. I fall asleep very fast....unless I know I have to get up at a certain time....and then I can't fall asleep for anything. I am a very light sleeper and I wake up fast. When I wake up, I am wide awake. It doesn't take me any time to "get with the program".

K, those Celadines do make a nicely shaped small tree! Did you get them all root-pruned this spring? And they're okay with so much sun up there? The few I've tried to keep out for at least 6 hours usually end up with scorched leaves!

Wildfire I'm sure stalled out last year from all the burned leaves so I've moved it. Some are definitely more sun-sensitive than others. Intense Rainbow is one of the few who shrugs off more than a few hours of direct midday sun.

The rainbow you gave me is still thinking about rooting. It looks like yours just branched out from the damaged tips without you having to cut.

The pink looks like it makes fantastic big inflos! What a great way to work, being able to look out at all that beauty. All your hard work definitely shows!

Thanks everyone for the compliments. My Office has become the "dumping grounds" for plumerias which have become too big for my backyard. I root pruned some this year but none at the office as they were transplanted 2years ago into those 25 gallon pots and got a good pruning then. I figure I have two more years before they need a refresh.

I goofed on the Rainbow but it seems to be fixing itself. I did remove a couple of tips further up which were shriveling up and the new growth from the leaf nodes has actually progressed further than the tips I left alone (food for thought). Maybe I'll get a couple of inflos from it this year. If not then next year will be a great year for it. I hope that cutting roots for you. Its a great specimen. Here is a picture of it from last year:

Those 5 Celadines and Pinks on the roof are up there from March until December going on three years. They have to be watered 3-4 times per week during the summer but have never had any sun related problems. by May or June they have huge full leaves and inflos all over. So I think the leaves do a very good job of keeping things cool and since they are more mature they have thicker bark (my assumption but makes sense to me).

I have 4 more Pinks and Celadines and one huge Jeannie Moragne on a lower balcony which faces south east so they get sun from about 8am until 1pm. The Jeannie has maybe 10 forming inflos on it and about as many leaves.

The pinks and celadines are my recommendation for anyone wanting to a simple but still very attractive plumeria which will bloom (given the recommended conditions) almost without fail after the second year of rooting.
