Trying to make PC speakers?

So I took apart my JBL Flip 3 and now have two pretty loud speakers.

So, basically, I have this idea of putting them in exhaust tips (something like this)(https://www.ebay.com/itm/Real-Carbon-Fiber-Car-Exhaust-Clamp-on-Tip-63MM-Universal-Muffler-Trim-Cover-NEW/112608750480?epid=28007483501&hash=item1a38012b90:g:J6sAAOSwH2VZ6Bgu)

Any tips/ videos that would help me? Do I need vents?

Try under "ELECTRONICS" rather than "ELECTRICAL WIRING". The hifi guys are over there.

Do you mean you're just going to use the tips as speaker cabinets or are you intending to put these on your exhaust pipes?

I have the Bubble Jet Set. I haven't made too much with it yet, but have made some fabric labels (with a very small pic), and a couple of quilt blocks. I actually made 4 quilt blocks, two using tranfer paper for dark fabrics. Of the 4, the two using the Bubble Jet set and white cotton fabric was the best, hands down. So I can say that it does transfer your design (I have a cheap printer, Lexmark Z22), looks great, feels great. The only thing I can't vouch for is long term.....I haven't tried washing it, nor have I had them long enough to see long term effects, like fading. I haven't done this yet, but thought it would be something to play with. I thought about doing some dolls with this. Using the computer to do the graphics, print onto the fabric and then sew it up. Just a thought.

I want a FAST computer. I'm not into games, music, or videos. Although watching TV, or a DVD would be nice. #1 NEED is to wisk around the web quickly (have NO patience!).- I may be running a website/business. That is not controlled by the computer, it's controlled by the connection you have. You need DSL or "business quality" cable connections. Normal household cable is shared with everyone on the block and it can be very slow. If you plan to run a website/business, I strongly recommend you just pay a few $$ a month for website hosting - siteground.com is a good one with lots of free tools and templates - because setting one up from scratch is a technical nightmare and your thinking a fast CPU = fast internet indicates that you aren't geekish enough to do it. *********** Any computer currently on the market is enough for web, office stuff and viewing DVDs. Buy the cheapest one you can find and pay extra for more RAM (lots more RAM) and a good graphics card.

I don't have any direct experience with speaker bars, but I can try to answer your questions anyway. Firstly, can you use a speaker bar but use your rear speakers? I think the answer is yes, but it depends on the speaker bar you choose. If the bar has a separate set of binding posts for each channel, then I guess you could do it, and part of the speaker bar would never get used. I looked at a few bars after reading your post and a few of them used optical audio connectors instead - something like that you wouldn't be able to separate the channels out. So make sure you know what the inputs on the back look like. Also, I found one or two units that only have the front and center channels on them (no rears). Something like this might be ideal for you since you don't have to worry about paying for extra speakers in the bar that you are not using. You could still send your rears back if you want, get a full speaker bar. I don't see how they could sound as good as a nice set of independent speakers, but most folks are not picky enough to care. Also - if you want any kind of punch in your bass, you'll still want a separate subwoofer, even with the speaker bar. Again, you might not be picky enough to care.

High spec'd PC's for the average user, I absolutely agree it's overkill, a waste of money, and not needed. But sorry, I don't find an SSD to be "over spec'd" for anyone. HDD's are great for storage, but not great for running an OS. Will it work, of course it will, it's been doing it for many years. Would I want it as my boot drive here in 2018? Hell no. I've had an SSD as my boot drive for 5+ years and would never go back. I did look at oem machines online last night, and find that most oem's only offer an SSD in their performance pc's which seem to START at $1k and include a bunch of other crap that isn't needed which is rather unfortunate. I know they do it to cut down on overhead of additional models to stock, but dang, Counterpoint though, I also feel a person over 60 who drives like a grandma should't own or be driving a Corvette or other high performance vehicle because they'll likely never drive it the way it's meant to be. BUT, they're the bulk of whom I see drive them, because that's about all who can afford them ;o). Some people just want to buy nice and impractical things because they can, not because they should.

If you are just looking at making noise, you could probably do that. If you are looking at some quality sound out of your computer you are better off getting something specifically designed for your computer, something like Altec Lansing ACS33 or similar.

Depends on what you're after. It'll look interesting, if you're into that kind of stuff. The sound will be somewhere between mediocre and awful, but if you're mainly after the looks and the novelty, that may not matter.

Use a real speaker cabinet. There's a reason they don't look like exhaust pipes. :)

But what the heck, why not go ahead and try the pipes? It won't be accurate music reproduction, but you might decide you like it anyway.

The idea reminds me a little of the tubular extension speaker a friend of mine bought for his transistor radio, back in the 1960s. It was a tube about 2-1/2 or 3" in diameter and maybe 10-12" long, probably just a gussied-up mailing tube, with grills on the ends and a cheap 2" or so speaker fastened in the middle. As far as I can recall, it looked exactly like this one.

It had all kinds of upper-bass frequency response peaks, so it made the radio sound kind of tubby. It wasn't anything like what you'd call high fidelity, but he liked it, and what else matters? To each his own.

Kinda late to the party here but the main thing is whether the cabinet is sealed or ported, and the size. I would go with the same type of enclosure the original speaker had, and as close to the same internal volume as possible. The cabinet will have the most impact in the bass region, and if you get it wrong, you will lose a lot of performance.
