Guest room 1: Size of rug

I am getting guest rooms ready for the holidays. Here is the first room. I basically shopped the house but did buy a new throw for the bed and a new rug. The rug might be too small. It is smaller than the one I had in there, which fit slightly under the bed. Do you think I should return it for a larger size?

Feel free to add any comments or suggestions unrelated to the rug size.

So far I have made 2 trips to Goodwill cleaning this room out. It was our youngest daughter's room and she left way too much behind when she moved out. I have not even tackled the walk-in closet yet. That will be at least 2 trips to Goodwill.

Yes, it is too small. The colors work nicely and will look great in a larger size.

It's hard to tell from the picture. It would look better if you turned it around where it will be horizontal with the bed. Is there room on the left side of the picture where I see something black?

Smallish rugs look great next to a bed. That's what I have and it's nice stepping on it to put my house shoes on instead of a cold floor.

Annette, I love the direction you're taking with your space! There is nothing warmer than Honey Oak or Heart Pine flooring imo~my son and I were just talking about this yesterday since he's wanting to have wood installed, and doesn't want dark. There's a real coziness to it. As for rugs, why not 2 different ones? I like the idea of the sisal since it will add texture also, and think it will be wonderful with either rug you choose, but I really love the William Morris. I have a WM in my greatroom and chose it for it's beautuful pattern. They're more unusual and not something you see a lot of.

If the duvet is 135 and the bed is 90, then the duvet is obviously wider than the bed. You have 45 cm left, so I'm assuming that it will cover the mattress. Personally, I agree that 135m is a bit small for an adult and that 150m would be better. At IKEA you can buy a duvet insert that's 150m for 7 or UK 8 pounds. Covers are around 15 pounds. http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/textiles-rugs/ Alternatively, you could double fold the 2m duvets, but I think a cover that's more than double the bed width is unwieldy.

Small rugs that size are a tripping hazard. They should only be used at the entrance from the outdoors, to wipe feet.

Here is a picture of the space. I didn't want to share because of all of the personal photos but I figured out how to blur them. There seems to be a lot of visual space to work with but not much physical space.

Oakley on the left side is a desk and the black item you see is DH's laptop case. There is also a chest of drawers on that side of the room. I agree with you about smallish rugs next to the bed, which is what I have in our master.

I am taking the rug back tomorrow and will look for something a bit larger for this side of the bed.

I agree with Oakley. That rug might very well work if you rotate it.

Nice room and the rug is ok... a larger one might be cozier, but this one will do fine.

As far as other suggestions, the corner lamp looks low to be useful for whoever is on the far side of the bed. Also, I can't see the rest of the room, but having just been away on vacation, we were in one room with very little surface area and it made it hard to operate, so think about people having a place to put their jewelry, keys, their luggage, their toiletries, etc.
