Comments (14)chloe - yes! One thing to note is that the instructions say you need European size light bulbs, but you don't, just regular chandelier bulbs. I used philips LED (warm white) and they look good. This does not give off the rainbow sparkles of a crystal chandelier like you can see in beekeeperswife's beautiful chandelier. I would say the shadow patterns are a bit more like water/raindrops but not pronounced, in fact the light generally seems pretty even and the strikingness is more from looking at the reflection/refraction in the bulbs themselves. I like the warm rainbow-ey effect of crystal, so if I get a big raise some day I may go for crystal in the dining and move this to the foyer. The quality is mid, about on par for the price. I wouldn't want to look too closely at the chrome after a few years and wouldn't wash the metal parts ever - but I am lazy so chances of me washing my chandelier are slight. It was surprisingly easy to assemble and comes with a few extra bulbs (to assemble it just goes big bulb/little bulb). I would say it's easy enough that I would hang first and then add the bulbs. An electrician installed it and I wasn't home that day, so I couldn't use my usual method of counting swears-per-minute to guage installation difficulty. But no complaints. Comments (5)I think your design is a great starting point. Love all the plants you have going on. That ottoman doesn't fit the style very well, but I think a different ottoman could. Something more like the one in hollybar's first pic. An ikat patterned fabric would be great. Also, you'll notice that every inspo pic has bright white walls. Yours are very neutral, so they'll likely work, but your room might feel a bit different because of the color. I would avoid using lots of different colors, since boho tends to be very neutral. The pop of color on the ottoman is all you need. Try to keep the art fairly subdued, or very natural feeling. Love the white frames and mats in your design. Botanical prints could work well. Or maybe use more structural art pieces instead of prints. Look through all those inspo pics for ideas. Texture is super important to make boho work, especially since there's not a lot of color. The interest comes from the texture. Wood, leather, metal, knit are all great textures to introduce. Subtle patterns are good too. Get a very textural rug as a good base. Maybe sisal or more shaggy....See MoreWhat size light fixture for 12 x 8 modern dining room?
Comments (15)info found online: For starters, remember that lighting from a chandelier, no matter what the setting, should make a room, people, home furnishings and prized possessions look their very best. So it’s important to hang the chandelier in the right spot and at the proper height for maximum impact. A chandelier in a dining room setting should be positioned in the center of the dining table and room proportions. Avoid purchasing chandeliers that are larger than the width of your table, as people may bump into it when getting up. A handy rule of thumb is that a chandelier should be 12 inches narrower than a table and have at least 48 inches of space from each of the room walls or edges. Hang a chandelier approximately 30 to 34 inches over a table with an 8 foot ceiling height. If your ceiling is higher than 8 feet, mount the chandelier an additional 3 inches higher for each foot of ceiling. Keep in mind that lighting from a chandelier that beams directly onto a person from above can cast unflattering facial shadows. The heat from bulbs directly overhead can also be uncomfortable. Avoid high wattage bulbs. They will increase the heat and cause excessive table glare....See Moreliving room and dining room (modern coastal/boho) design needed
Comments (4)There are a few tricks to use to bring make more light (appear) in the room. Lighting is crucial, so don't treat it as an afterthought. Before you do or get anything, have a plan. Measure twice, buy once. In the living room, put the ceiling light on a dimmer. A ceiling light in the living room does not make for an intimate living room experience. I prefer no ceiling light there, and instead - a tale lamp or wall sconce at chest height. I love a well lit room, so I go a bit nuts with the lighting! Other things you can do: put a mirror on the wall - only if there is a nice reflection. Put glass or mirror table tops - only if that goes along with your decor. Other places you can put mirrors are on lamp bases. Don't overdo it, but you are on the right track with bright colors. I have a dark living room also, and I have a lot of color in my oversized wall art (go big or go home!) I can't tell from the pictures, but some of them look like the walls are a cool color and some look warm. Be very careful if you plan on repainting the walls. It makes a lot of difference. I really like Nick Lewis on youtube on that topic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KDnuPfuro0&t=61s Please no gray couch. How about a medium brown? Gray is a cool color and has been overdone in the past five years....See Morebeckysharp Reinstate SW Unconditionally
