Thanks for looking at my post. I am having difficulty deciding on style and most importantly scale of the lighting in my great room. The room is 20' by 27'. TV will go above fireplace that is yet to be designed. One light will hang above the ottoman and ceiling height is 10'6". Room space up to but not including bar sofa table is about 14' by 12'. I will be putting tall slim lights on the bar table ledge behind sofa for reading light and more by chairs. The other light will hang above the table and is 14'6" ceiling height. Room space is about 11' by 12'. Surprisingly the 52" round table shape works.

I need help with the scale of the lights. I have two sets of two different lights. One is the concentric rectangles and the size is 24" by 17" tall (for above ottoman) and then a foyer style light that is 24" by 39" tall for above the table. It also has a 39" by 27" tall with down rod 39" ,which would put it very low. The other set is 35" by 9" and 24" by 9". My husband is holding the 35" by 9" light above the ottoman. I will have at least 80" clearance under ottoman for either light. Family room area furniture is newly purchased for room so I will need to work with it. Considering painting table in charcoal as in the other tables and purchasing new chairs. Or I will be purchasing a new table and chair set.

As you can see I need lighting :)

That long rectangular fixture is intended to go over a dining table or island, it will look out of place in a living room. You may be able to get away with it if rotated the opposite direction from how it is being held in the photo.

Thank you for your advice! I see that it does look like a rectangle but it is actually a 35" circular light. Yes, I agree that would look awful. Still not sure about which light "set" to use.

Repose walls and white cabinets will look great. So will the espresso. That is very dark brown, like coffee, right? I love picture frames that are simple flat panel espresso colored/stained wood where you can see the wood grain but they look like wonderful dark coffee and they are a good two inches wide on a big poster. (Yikes, I always see things in terms of food, granite counters look like vanilla fudge, or jamoca almond fudge ice cream, or nougat candy. I really couldn't do that, I'd be running to the store all the time!) There is a frequent commenter here, Anglophilia who used I think repose grey on her walls and white on her cabinets, or was it white on her walls and repose grey on her cabinets? I can't remember! Why not invite her on this thread and ask her. Adding a wood mantle is a great idea and in regards to bookcases, maybe consider cabinets and open shelving to match mantle. With the other bookcases in room, there is a bit of bookcase overload If you do want something like the look below, make sure the bookcases reach the ceiling and have a trim for a more finished look. Really important as well is how you accessorize shelves and mantle and there is lots of on line help When you reference help with layout, hard to suggest - is there any other location for sectional? In regards to lighting, add lamps to side tables, a floor lamp located where it’s needed and if you don’t need the ceiling fan/light, replace with something that provides good lighting and also place on a dimmer. You can get a lot of ideas by searching Houzz and Pinterest for inspiration, as it is hard to know how much you want to change.

First thought is to move the whole seating area down toward the fireplace so the the end table is centered on the far window. My moving the seating area down, you may be able to have a sofa table behind for some lamps. I would look at plantation shutters although if I could convince you I’d go with drapes too. It will help to balance that wall out and add some softness as well as add some visual ‘pop’ if you chose a pattern. With that said, with drapes you wouldn’t need any artwork because the wall space would be taken up by the drapes. I’d remove the mirrored piece to the right by the entry as it looks like it’s floating out in space. I would also consider doing something else other than artwork. There is so much out there like wall planters, metal art, something 3-dimensional. Just an FYI, there are apps like BeCasso that will take an existing photo and turn it into a watercolor, oil paining, pop art. Then you can order it as print, canvas or whatever. I did some mediocre mock-ups so you can get a feel for what some of this would look like. I also included a pic of a house like yours so that you may want to put something in the entry. I wouldn’t two two items just one.

Good layout and wonderful color sofa! Looks like you are not afraid of color, go for a colorful rug and walls. Rug 9x12 Colorful or light off white Sounds like this is your tv room. Consider a darker more dramatic wall to compliment the color of the sectional and vibrant lounge chairs. Keep the fireplace wall white and the ceiling white (Benjamin Moore Decorators White - a clear bright white) as it will bring out the color of the sofa. The light walls behind the sofa are washing out the color. Here are some inspiration pics. ^ ^ ^ BTW this is wallpaper ^ ^ ^ The color of the wall is the color of your sofa. Note the bright turquoise color on the sofa to consider for the wall color ^ ^ ^ It's all about cozy comfort. Note the colorful rug ^ ^ ^ Note the wall color (your sofa) and the blue green art (for the walls) Light floor and bright yellow accents ^ ^ ^ I wanted you to see the brown tone on tone and the light side wall and light rug. If you do a tone on tone with the blue colors you can achieve this layering. ^ ^ ^ Again the tone on tone color with hot pink accents.

Need simplified info: correct me if i am wrong on any of this.

Two Light Fixtures- one is 24" round and 17" high the other is 24" round and 39" high.

They sent out additional rods for height adjustment that are 9" tall?

Living room fixture should be about 7'6 off the floor.

Dining room fixture should be about 3' off the table.

Thank you. We have the 7'6" and 3' covered. I totally get the confusion as I supplied too much information. The one light my husband is holding in the picture is 35" wide by 9" tall (with the rod it will be 36") thus when hung will be 7'6" off of the floor. This is the 10'6" tall part of the sloped ceiling.

The other area is 14'6" tall part of the sloped ceiling and the light will be above the table. It is the other style and is 39" tall by 24" wide. It comes with 6' of chain.

Would these two lights coordinate enough to be put in this same room? The finish will be close enough. (with a bit of spray paint on the second one)
