Design Around This #1- Dining Room- Edwardian, not Pottery Barn!
Comments (45)Cawaps, those chairs are great. Love the "ears" on the back. Your combination of dark ceiling, mid-tone walls, light rug is unusual and I like it. I appreciate your thoughtful comments. This has been fun. I loved seeing each design. I think Crl's is my personal favorite. I could really visualize the room, with the pale blue lincrusta paper, beautiful chandelier, and the great rug that tied it all together and made it a bit more modern. Thank you all for participating! I think maybe we'll get more participation when it's not a holiday weekend. Any ideas for next week? Anyone want to put it together? I'll go back and look at the suggestions and post them....See MoreApartment living room help- design around grey couch
Comments (12)Thank you so much for all these ideas. I have eclectic taste but like contemporary, midcentury modern, global, a mix of these or other styles. For the space the astro console looks super cute. Here are some random things i've been collecting in carts that I like: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N79WZFS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 (I like rust color- don't know how to coordinate with grey etc.... but can swing to blue, red , green, darker grey, etc.) https://www.westelm.com/products/phoebe-chair-s2643/?pkey=e%7Cphoebe%2Bchair%7C3%7Cbest%7C0%7C1%7C24%7C%7C3&cm_src=PRODUCTSEARCH (red could be nice too-just don't know how to tie in coordinating colors in the room) This coffee table looks neat but then what kind of console to get and is white the better color to design around or is taupe, dark brown better: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QUE7NFK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_12?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 Here it is in cement color: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NBF5JHF/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_16?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3SQ9YFE6CSCS0 I was hoping to decorate wall or nick naks with mediative/mind-body items like a painting of buddha or lotus and or horse painting. https://www.houzz.com/products/marmont-hill-fire-horse-by-irena-orlov-painting-on-wrapped-canvas-24x16-prvw-vr~84354093 https://www.icanvas.com/canvas-print/sitting-buddha-val346#1PC3-40x26 https://www.amazon.com/Sea-Charm-Peaceful-Decoration-Artwork/dp/B01MYGO95D/ref=sr_1_11?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1507078846&sr=1-11&keywords=lotus+print Thanks so much for the ideas! Comments (15)We hear you! But the best thing you can do is save money first. The wall to wall carpeting should go. You decide whether you want a sun room or a living room. You can not "add pieces" randomly and in piece meal fashion. All rooms fail without an obvious intent, and a plan. One is impossible without the other. That is your route out of the hodge podge. : ) That doesn't mean you toss existing pieces. But the wicker chairs belong at least on hardwood, and better on tile. The book case perhaps on a smaller wall in a bedroom. The settee? Fine! as an accent within a context that says something about the intent for your space. Random additions/purchases will waste $$$$$ and add to the visual confusion. Eclectically indoor /outdoor is fine. But it takes some planning to convey the "message". I'd begin with the flooring. With carpet it tells a "living room" story : ) Not one of wicker chairs. It begins with a proportional focal point on the back wall. Maybe a zero clearance gas fireplace. Maybe a large console and art? One larger sofa.....all set on a hard floor and that floor has an area rug. It is difficult to specify without a budget, and without a furnishings plan...See MoreDesign a room, ANY room, around this rug...
Comments (79)Hey there Dawn Martinez color finally chosen for family room and kitchen was Sherwin Williams Row House Tan! It's perfect, made everything lighter and fresher looking. Gcubed Yeah - I know, ... we tried so many things in this room, nothing worked 100% . We tried larger, smaller, ottomans, trunks, nesting tables, round wicker table, glass - everything was just the wrong scale or wrong color. The husband (who spends a lot of time in this room) liked this one best, it is one of those lift top tables, so the surface does come up and over more toward the furniture and it has several drawers for storage (for laptop, remote controls, papers etc.) so the room looks neater. We did try a larger sisal rug under this rug but between the furniture is pretty large and the room relatively narrow so it just didn't work. Eventually, the furnishings will be pared down and will allow for the furniture to be positioned better on this rug. I am having a hard time getting used to seeing the table there and now the fireplace looks off, big black square hole and an expanse of off white primer. I need some ideas to help it look better....See Morejck910
