Ikea Applad White - Before & After
Comments (16)dianalo: Thanks for your questions. (1) Wearability/Finish: The cabinets will be two years old in May. They've held up beautifully. Not a mark on them (knock on wood). As a precaution, I had paint mixed to have on hand in case of scratches or mars, but have yet to use it. They wipe down with a clean sponge; I do dry them to prevent spotting or streaks. Once , while I left the door under the sink open, I banged the adjacent plate drawer into the sink cabinet handle; not a mark on the drawer front. (though if you choose large handles like mine, they do create some issues that you might want to consider in your planning). One minor issue with the finish: Ikea furnishes little self-adhesive cabinet door/drawer bumpers; they seem to move around over time on this slick lacquer finish; requires readjustment by just moving it to where it was originally. (2) Assembly: I'm a life-long stay-at-home wife who will never see 50 again. I assembled all the cabinets myself; though I did need help on the tall pantry cabinets (they are very heavy). I used a power screw driver when possible. It is a lot of screwing. I don't remember how long it took to assemble them; it does get very quick since it is just the same steps over and over once you learn the process. I know I was easily able to do several a day (3) Installation: My brother installed the cabinets for us. I was the helper, when necessary. He had never installed any kind of kitchen cabinets before (though he is a tile contractor and has installed bathroom vanity cabinets). He loved the Ikea mounting system. At the time, this kitchen was a big leap of faith, mainly because of the long distance aspect of using Ikea -- 5 hour drive one way. But in the end it was definitely worth it. Also, if you are considering an Ikea kitchen, you must visit the IkeaFans website; it was started by Ikea posters here and is invaluable for anyone considering Ikea. Best of luck....See More85% Finshed French Ikea Kitch need help - before and after pics!!
Comments (13)Bonjour Belle cuisine ! Ooooooo La La. You have done a lovely job. A bright glass tile would be wonderful. Or super tiny octagonal tiles perhaps a few in the slate color you like but the rest in whites, grays, creams and a favorite color. Slate is beautiful but the gray might cool the room to much. You need more warmth. (birght colors)Yes Madame Hospital needs a little color. :) What colors do you and your husband love? What colors and style are you using for bar stools or perhaps kitchen curtains? Or maybe a frame pictures. Not too much color as you don't want to crowd the space I assume you like clean lines and simplicity. No Pendants it will fight with the hood. If you do use shelves be sure to pick items that would be lovely to see when sitting in the LR. Vases or nicely shaped coffee mugs. Something bright or warmer to add to the color you might be using as accents. Here are some pictures of small kitchens that might give you some ideas of how to finish off your beautiful space. Open shelves Idea. If you do not want clutter this may not work for you but it is one idea. This reminded me of your kitchen. The picture kind of pulls it together. The gray might give you the idea of slate if you did go ahead with slate. This backsplash brightens this kitchen up. It is hard to see but it is light blue green glass tile. this back splash might work for you too. See the open shelves to the left. So many ideas so many ways to be creative. Plants can also warm up a room without over powering it with clutter. Je souhaite que j'aie été en France aussi. Enjoy your home in France. ~boxerpups...See MoreBasement Kitchen Reveal (Ikea)

Comments (46)Historian, I love small homes, ours is 1500 sq feet so pretty roomy for a 2 bd condo and by far the biggest house we've lived in but the kitchen was definitely not a good use of space originally. We don't have a garage or any storage aside from a couple reach in closets, so our next step is doing something more efficient with our closets - I may pop over to small homes for advice on that :) halfwaythere1 sure I'll check out your thread! writersblock, so far we're loving the range - but going from an old Whirlpool basic range we are bound to love anything new. But I do love the knobs on front so no reaching over hot pots to adjust burners (yet they are safety knobs so children can't reach up and twiddle). We haven't baked anything int he oven yet as we're still trying to burn off the new oven smell. On the weekend we ran it with sliced lemons in a pan of water inside (I heard that can help with the smell) and the exhaust on full and all windows open but I've very smell/chemical sensitive and could still smell it. So we'll have to give it another try burning off the smell before we can bake any food in there - does anyone have tips on speeding up that process? mama goose_gw zn6OH, yes the refresh really made it look nicer for the past couple years, but i just hated the cabinets, lack of storage, and poor layout so once we had the money saved up I've always wanted an Ikea kitchen! The counters were actually reasonable - $1300 for the slab and $3000 for fabrication/install/seal so $4300 total. And today the inspector signed off for our completed permit so we're all officially done! In fact he was very impressed by the job and especially loved the trash pullout and the contractor's work in general....See Morebailey183913
