Ikea Laxarby Kitchen Reveal- Before & After- With a Blog Too

I have been guilty of procrastination. I meant to post a reveal many months ago, but kept holding off as the kitchen still has some 'finishing' items to deal with. But, what the heck, it might take me an extra year to get to that, so here goes nothing...

There are no fancy items in this reno; the biggest cost for us was reframing the windows. Ikea was really the only option as it fit our budget and timeline. The appliances are second hand, the island was an estate auction find that my mother refinished. The flooring is a vinyl plank from Home Depot. We did most of the work ourselves, contracting out the electrical, plumbing and window framing. This could be considered a budget renovation.

Gardenweb was an awesome resource, I spent so much time reading and searching old posts before I was ready to ask for help of my own. Marco's guidance on Ice, Water, Stone, Fire; drawers (22 of them)..., Mushcreek's no upper kitchen, etc, all played a big role in influencing the design.

This is an earlier thread when I was still brainstorming and not quite at the final layout. https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/4608319/help-with-reno-changes-old-house-onto-a-new-basement

In July 2017, we bought an old house (1928), and moved it 372km (231 miles) to our land onto a new foundation. We did not want to 'live' with the layout for awhile; because it was going on a new basement, that meant all new plumbing hookups and we wanted to get it right the first time and be done.

This was the original layout of the kitchen.

We knew we that we wanted to add more windows, save the original upper cabinets, and take down the dividing wall between the kitchen and laundry area. When we received the all clear that the wall was not load bearing we finalized our layout and started demo.

The After: (disclosure, even though there are some glaringly obvious finish details to complete, it does not in anyway limit my joy of working in my awesomely laid out kitchen)
