Ikea Sektion sizes at AT
Comments (10)The corner base cabinet is now 38" long instead of 37". For my project this frustratingly means moving walls unless I get an Akurum kitchen immediately and risk being out of luck if anything gets damaged during the build. It appears though that since there is a mounting rail for base cabinets now similar to how the wall cabinets are done, there may be opportunity to shave down 1/2" or so off the rear and do away with the rail, and hopefully make things fit. Also of concern is the drawer height reducing from 6" to 5". I thought the old height was perfect for many items. I have a grater, ladle and measuring cup that work just right at the 6" height. The next size up in the new system looks to be 10" which would be very unusual for any kitchen I've seen in North America. I'm not sure how I feel about the wall cabinets going from 12" deep to 15" deep. Dinner plates used to fit fine with the old depth, and I'm worried that the new cabinets will literally be 'in your face' when working in front of them....See MoreWhat do you think of this idea for IKEA Sektion door fronts?
Comments (22)Let's see what I can remember... I don't think I saw white shaker doors. In addition to the new ash fronts, there's going to be a walnut or walnut-look front (not sure if it's foil or walnut textured laminate) with an integrated handle at the top of drawers and handles on the side of the doors, something like the Godmorgon vanities in the textured oak laminate. They're keeping the high gloss Ringhult white (I think it's their bestseller) but probably the Ringhult grey will be discontinued. As an alternative to the Ringhult, they will introduce a new line of less expensive high-gloss fronts in white, cream and some other colors. Also, the yellow accent doors will be replaced with orange ones....See MoreBaker Cherry Shaker doors vs IKEA Laxarby doors
Comments (14)Bbtrix, thank you so much for your input. It has been very helpful as I reflect on this project. I want to make the IKEA work because of $ and for simplicity. I considered the Laxarby because it will match the other elements and be paintable in the future if needed, as it is wood. The white selections that IKEA offer now, are all foil wrapped or some other product. I would have preferred a color to the cabinets other than white though. White would not work with my DH. I am thinking, after discussing this, that the dark Laxarby would be fine with the table. The room won't be really contemporary, the desk/table I am reading as more rustic. We live on a farm next to a major river with lots of woods nearby. The desk/table, to me, speaks to the countryside around us. The cabinets will blend and contrast with my kitchen. So maybe I am off the cherry cabinets for his office ;) I will be using a whitish countertop with the cabinets, but will need to consider that now, if I go with this table. I couldn't go walnut!!! Could I? It might be too dark for the room. Speaking of counters, I just saw on craigslist a bunch of walnut slabs that might work for countertop at my depth. OH NO! I wanted simple. But I love projects. I have the means to make a countertop out of a slab I think....See MorePlease Help with IKEA Sektion Cover Panels
Comments (20)Hello, i was hoping someone can help me with a delimma i am having with my Ikea Sektion cabinets. As you can see in my picture, the drawer front on the left does not come all the way down to cover the rest of the base cabinet like the other two beside. The runner is all the way to the bottom, I’ve tried turning the little screw in the drawer but it doesn’t lower it enough to cover that white part at the bottom and I have installed the fronts according to the instructions. I did call Ikea trying to explain the issue and they said it could be a ”quality” thing and nothing can be done. But why would other cabinets in the series not be like this?? if anyone can help that would be greatly appreciated!! i am getting very frustrated and just want that little white patch covered....See MoreTmnca
