I don’t know how long it takes, but try Casetify. I recently ordered a couple of their ‘leather’ bands for my Apple Watch and decided to try one of their phone cases for my 8+. I really like it and the quality seems good so far, and most are milspec. It was hard to choose a style from their many cool designs. Some look as if they have texture but don’t.

I had previously been using Speck cases, and they usually keep up with at least a few available for the latest phone models. But I haven’t been as pleased lately with how long they last where you plug in the charger cable.

Mtn, my daughter ordered the Xs Max (gold) and it arrived yesterday. However, she was having a hellish time setting it up and Verizon was totally crazed with the volume of help calls. My daughter is a tech professional, so not just your average end-user. I'm sure she'll get it sorted out. She's getting a case because she drops things.

ETA: I have a still good 6s Plus, but I think I'll get an Xs or X in a month or two. I *always* get a case. My current one is silicone and I prefer it to leather because it's so grippy. My hands are small and I've had leather that may look better, but it's harder to grip.

I desperately need a new phone too. Will you please post a review when you get yours?

I don’t know about new phones but for mine I had a custom one made with one of my sunrise photos. I think it was snapfish. I always smile when I see it.

I guess what I am wondering is how long it will take for a full line of cases to come out. I mean if they upgrade iphones every year... the design lead time should not be that long.

My son was overdue for a new phone, but it was hanging in there other than the battery wearing down. We told him at graduation we would get him one, but he wanted to see if he could wait until the new one came out -- his plan was to get the x when the price went down because it was no longer a new model, but they discontinued it. He got the xs and set it up at home. I think he had to call the carrier to get it activated, but I didn't hear any complaints the next morning. He got space gray, so I haven't seen the new gold yet.

I don't think it is that long before you will see a lot more selection in cases, but you could get something functional now and replace if you are concerned. I like a case to make it less slick in my hand. Just feels more secure. I have a clear one. My other son really likes the Apple leather cases -- very slim and simple. And they have them at release.

I got the Xs Max Friday as did techie son that lives in another state........his set up was very easy - the phones instantly transferred......I was upgrading from my old, weak battery, iphone 6s and it didn't go smoothly and messaged me that I would have to go through it via "manual" steps.....it did switch over but only 3/4 of my contacts made it over for the first day, I about had a heart attack, but after actually plugging it in over night, all the contacts were there in the morning. So far, so good, I occasionally wear glasses at the computer, facial recognition only works if you don't change your face with glasses (or sunglasses) but if you pull them up, it knows it is me. It is much larger and heavier than the old 6s, but I got the one that is to have the best battery life (X2 Max 256GB). I did gold and have a clear cover......it is almost mirror like on the back but doesn't show all the imperfections like the camera on reverse:)

I drop my phone all the time so I will only use a Lifeproof case. I bought an iPhone 8 in rose gold earlier this year. The plus is a little too big for me. The Lifeprood case is not as stylish, but at least functional. I have to take it out of the case to put it in the wristlet.

I bought the case at Verizon and definitely overpaid. The same case is half the price on Amazon.

That is interesting, I don't wear glasses but I do love my sunglasses. One of the secretaries at work has one and she was surprised her phone FR worked even when she had her sunglasses on. YMMV

Got the iphone xs max last night but was too busy to look at it.

Oh my, i love it. The screen is so big and so fab. The facial recognition doesn't even require a pause; you pick it up and it sees you.

It does not feel "to big" at all to me. The camera is wondrous!

Set up was so easy. The two phones literally talked to each other. The new one took a picture of some sort of a code that appeared on the old one. ANd then it did its thing.

Good to hear you like your new phone, I need to add that after a couple of days, my phone learned (self-taught) it was me with glasses or sunglasses, as well as my more common "no glasses" self. Don't want to think too much about the programming wonders that went into that.....but I, too, love my phone:)

I love the facial recognition, which DOES work in my case with sunglasses. But it does NOT work with masks. Probably understandable but frustrating right now while we are living in masks....

Yes, I keep holding off on taking a new photo w mask! It's really makes Apple Pay less fun when you can use FR.
