Fireplace, centered to the room or to the wall it's on.
Comments (24)The fp should be centered on the wall. Even though the room is larger, the area to the right is actually a "hallway" and you will want it to function as such, so you will want to group your furniture around the fp and still have that "hallway" for traffic flow. That will also make the fp look more centered from the kitchen which is where I suspect you will be spending a lot of time looking at it. The only thing is, you haven't sketched in a TV...is there a TV in this room? If there will be, my answer may change. Our fp is not centered in our room, but centered on the wall across from the sofa so the main seating area is grouped around the fp....See MoreDining room paint color with a bright blue oriental rug
Comments (96)I'm sorry, but I have to say I don't like the navy (or the camel). The rug color is more a royal blue, i.e.: a warm blue and the navy is a whole other blue, and IMO, they clash. I also, again, think it is just too much saturation of blue. Like NSM's chandy and think it would look great in your dining alcove. I do think you should paint those French doors the same color as the trim, regardless of what color you paint the walls. If you go with the chocolate brown, consider painting the chairs silver. If you go with a light color, I'd paint them black. The silver will compliment the glass top, and the black will go with the base. Btw, it is sounding to me like you have made up your mind and that you really want to do it in the Midsummer Night. It's not a lot of wall area, so you're not investing a whole lot in paint here. You can paint it in the color you want, get it all set up with the new chandy, painted chairs, artwork, live with it for a month (or some agreed-upon time limit) and if your husband (or you, for that matter) still really doesn't like it, you can always repaint it....See MoreHelp with French Living room layout with off center fireplace
Comments (14)You have enough room for two three seat sofas and a couple of smaller scale arm chairs. Take a look at the below diagram to see if it's something that would appeal to you. It's got two eight foot sofas and a large area rug that defines the entire seating area. One sofa is served by cubed coffee tables, the other by a larger table with an ottoman underneath for casual extra seating. See below example. If the arrangement will work for you, get some blue painters tape and map out the furniture on the floor to make sure the sizing will fit....See MoreHelp: Family room furniture layout with off centered fireplace
Comments (22)Thank you for all your suggestions! All were great ideas! So this is what Im going to try. Leave the current setup in front of the TV and just bring the sofa in a bit more to make space for sofa table and then creating another seating area with 2 chairs flanking the fireplace. Also move the chaise near the bar with a floor lamp. Perfect! One last question, should i place a small rug in front of the fireplace area( maybe a round one) or leave it?...See MoreAngela Todd Studios | Portland, OR
