Comments (35)Wow! You guys are amazing! I need a bumper sticker that says "I Love Garden Web." I appreciate all your expertise. An update: I took DH to see the table on Saturday The table is in pieces, so we were able to turn the pedestal upside down and inspect them more closely. Much to my horror, I found that several do the other legs looked like they were about to come off or had been badly reglued onto the pedestals. I went running to the shopowner, who calmly said their furniture repair person could fix all of the problems for $200. That would put the price of this table at $500. So no, I did not buy the table on the spot. I told the shopowner that I would look at the table again after repairs. That gives me time to troll Craigslist and some of the many antique stores in the Atlanta area. I went down the street to a store that sells a few antiques, but mostly refinishes them. The shoppwmer there made a face when I mentioned the price on the (repaired) DP table, so I will definitely do some bargaining if it comes to that. On the upside, this same guy said he has 8 matching DP chairs in his warehouse, just waiting for someone to have them refinished. I am not fixed on DP, but I like it better than some other styles, and it would go well with my very formal dining room. I apprciate all the info on veneer--I had very little knowledge, and now I know that since I want a very large table, veneer would be a very reasonable choice. I know $500 makes the table less of a deal, but of couple of things will keep it on the radar: 1) We went over budget on the kitchen, and I'm trying to dave DH some money 2) $500 is still way less that the 1-4k that I've seen these tables listed for online. 3) If the repairs are done correctly, the piece will be stable and strong for many years to come.4) It's big. And right here. Bird in the hand, and all that. Thank you, everyone, (especially celticmoon) for all the pictures. Some of the tables are beautiful, especially tha one with the roping around the edge. Drooool. Off to do some table trolling... oh and I have seen one leaf (the other one was upside down beyond my reach,) but I'm sure the shopowner would have mentioned any major damage. I just wish I knew what happened to this poor defenseless table......See MorePine drop-leaf table---do I want it?
Comments (18)Oly, you're spot on, so I passed on it. Leaves aren't rock solid either. My current table is a Jacobean revival. It's ok but not rustic enough for my taste, not to mention that my Parsons chairs don't fit between the legs :( (looks pretty much like this, but this is not my table) I also have a beautiful antique cherry table which has one leave right now but could be pulled out to 8 feet? However, it would require an additional leave to be made. Not to mention that I hate seeing it destroyed by my messy family members. Maybe I just let them wreck it???? Thanks so much, Cyn, for posting the tables, but I need one that can seat at least 8 people. I'm basically looking for a farmhouse table, and to complicate matters further, I also like the Arhaus Tao table... Indecision paralysis, which is why I don't want to plunk down 2K....See MoreDrop leaf table in foyer
Comments (52)Anew, Just checking in today. I don't get the email notices about new posts - so surprised to see this post pop up today!! I do love WT - I have used it in 2 other houses. I read where you were thinking about SB also - I have used that one, too! My sis has SB right now. ~I~ prefer WT, but really there is very little difference between the 2 colors. I thought SB was a little more washed out than WT. I think you will be happy with WT!! It does seem to be a very popular color but for good reason - it goes with alot. Good luck with your decision - & yeah, people say it is just paint but it is a hassle when your doing it!! Smiles:)...See MoreHelen
