Perhaps if you took the family photos -- switched them to black-and-white -- and hung them on the long strip of blank wall to the left of the doorway?

Then simply move the chest to the middle of the table -- open it -- and add a seasonal silk (or fresh for a party!) arrangement. Maybe with some wonderful feathers to complement the colors of the grain in the wood?

Here is a pic of the piece that was there before I moved the glass cab up in the foyer. This one is not perfect either & I am not so crazy about the very very traditional style of the chest. My plan was to get something better for foyer & move this next to my bed. I always need more room on bedside tables!

Thanks - good idea about the box with florals. DH is going to SD to pheasant hunt so I will have (hopefully) tons of pheasant feathers!!

I took the box out on approval, too. It looked so good on the table at the store but not so good at my house. Oh well. My thinking was that the black in the box would tie in to DS portrait.

I love the table! I think the thick pedestal base give it the right amount of presence for an entry table! I do like the way you have it decorated, box and all. I think the arrangement is much more graceful than the previous chest. The arrangement you have now looks lovely as I peek past into your dining room- they complement each other. I dont know if that makes sense or not.

I don't think the box is so bad! I like it, but I would move it to the center and the pics to where the box is now. I think it is just the placement of the box that is off. It is a pretty table!

I LOVE the box -- and the coloring does indeed tie in the colors from the portrait and the table -- and it is a wonderful height for the whole look!

I like the table in the foyer.

However, I do agree that it's a bit low, so I'd hang the artwork higher to draw the eye upward; get a taller lamp; and add some larger photo frames that stand vertically.

The box is nice, but I find that it mimics the low lines of the table too much. I'm sure there's a better spot for it elsewhere in your home.

Redsox, the foyer is BM Wilmington Tan. My DR right behind it is Mystic Gold. I have started a thread asking about how the MG looks in my kitchen. And thank you.

How about this arrangement? Added a taller lamp - moved box & frames & raised one frame up on some books. Just bought the Warren Buffet book at Costco - hope it's good & insightful.
I think I will look for some taller roll wheel things at HD tomorrow to see if I can raise it up a bit more. I kept both pieces.

Johatemp, sorry to be the odd one out, but I don't think the table looks good in the foyer. The pedestal is way too big and it screams "dining room table". I like the cabinet you had there originally because it looked like a cabinet for a foyer. I adore that picture on the wall though and figure no one will notice anything but that beautiful child. LOL

I think the table is so beautiful, & quite a find. What a versatile piece of furniture! You have a drop-leaf table large enough for dining but small enough w/the leaves down to be an entry table...perfect! As others have noted, the wood is quite lovely, & the pedestal, which is very pretty, will also make dining more pleasant since guests won't be fighting with legs when seated at this smaller table! Your house looks gorgeous btw. I love your classic, traditional style that never seems stuffy, just really warm & welcoming. Good job!

I love it. And the arrangement is way better with the box in the middle. I think the picture above it works wonderful there. I like the taller lamp but I loved the other lamp, too. I'd like to see a pic with each of the lamps, but either way I think you've nailed it. It's a little unexpected but yet perfect.

I love it. The whole set up looks magazine worthy. The little reddish chest looked boring and expected there. The pedestal looks unique - like a high end decorator's work. Don't raise anything, if the picture is higher, it will emphasize how low the table is. They are in perfect proportion. Love it.

That table is so gorgeous that I'd need a chair in there for several days just to sit and admire it! The grain is stunning. I'd love to see close up pics of the box, also, so we can see the detail in it.

I am with brutuses on this one. The drop sides of the table and pedestal are too bulky to look like anything but a dining table. That large flat drop leaf, while made of lovely wood, lacks the interest and elegance that the chest had there.

Could you tuck that table behind a loveseat or couch as a sofa table, and just wheel it out when needed for extra dining?

I wanted to see a pic of the final arrangement with the first lamp also, it seemed perfect for that spot :-)

I love the table, box and picture. It is comfortable and elegant at the same time. I liked the box on the side, but love it in the middle.

Mimi & Joann - the next day I switched the lamp to the original one!! It just fits on that table so much better:)

Can dice - the door is stained. It was a custom stain by the painters - which I have none of & my doors need to be redone badly. The dogs go ballistic when they are home alone & someone comes up. I wish I had the nerve to paint all my doors dark brown/black in my house with white trim.

I actually love the table - the chest is very nice - but putting a chest in the entry is rather expected, don't you think? The chest also looks new and the antique table just adds more interest to the setting....I'd stick with the table.

I'd look for a lamp with more bulk, glazed ceramic - something a little grander and more unique looking that what you have there. Your special table deserves a very special lamp as well. Great find by the way.

I LOVE THAT TABLE!!!! If only one like that would come through the shop for repair/ refinish that nobody would come back to pick-up! Then it'd be mine! ALL MINE!!!!

I have a few drop leaf tables in our hallway & office and they are wonderful for entertaining! I usually set one up w/ drinks & the other w/ sweets. Gets people moving around.

The one above the table is my DS. I had to get on a list when he was born to get that portrait - he was 18 months when taken!! And right after the photo his darling curls flopped so it was great timing. The photographer framed the pic.

I do love WT - I have used it in 2 other houses. I read where you were thinking about SB also - I have used that one, too! My sis has SB right now. ~I~ prefer WT, but really there is very little difference between the 2 colors. I thought SB was a little more washed out than WT. I think you will be happy with WT!! It does seem to be a very popular color but for good reason - it goes with alot.
Good luck with your decision - & yeah, people say it is just paint but it is a hassle when your doing it!!
