Stitz I don't know all the rules and tend to drift off when the rules and protocols are thrown around in my presence but a plant does not have to be judged. If one judge on a team thinks it should be judged they will go through the point scoring thing. If one of them picked it up and said he thought it was a hybrid and no one disputed it, it would go unjudged. The provisional award thing I thought was only for a new previously unjudged species? Again, I don't really know and I may have been napping during that part of the discussion :>) I do know there were a couple of judges present that day I would consider very familiar with Lycaste. My husband did not see which team got the plant nor did our local friend see where it ended up. The OIC notes: The lip and callus shape are consistent with Lycaste deppei but lack the spotting expected in this species. The tips of the sepals and petals are not as acute as one would expect. However, this species is highly variable and all the published varieties are recognized as Lycaste deppei. The other important part of the equation is whoever picked up the container, looked at it, had a good chuckle and used the "ain't got enough red spots" to be judged excuse :>) I was happy with the OIC findings as was Gene Hausermann who contacted me after my email asking if anyone else had ever said anything about it's ID. I'm now using this as an excuse to try to find a really spotty one :>) Brooke

Oly, you're spot on, so I passed on it. Leaves aren't rock solid either. My current table is a Jacobean revival. It's ok but not rustic enough for my taste, not to mention that my Parsons chairs don't fit between the legs :( (looks pretty much like this, but this is not my table) I also have a beautiful antique cherry table which has one leave right now but could be pulled out to 8 feet? However, it would require an additional leave to be made. Not to mention that I hate seeing it destroyed by my messy family members. Maybe I just let them wreck it???? Thanks so much, Cyn, for posting the tables, but I need one that can seat at least 8 people. I'm basically looking for a farmhouse table, and to complicate matters further, I also like the Arhaus Tao table... Indecision paralysis, which is why I don't want to plunk down 2K.

Thanks, everyone. I like the idea of a drop leaf. It's makes sense to have the table small when it's just two of you and that you can open it up for a big crowd. I think I would have already gotten it if it was in cherry...I'm a sucker for anything cherry. This one is a bit unique in that the two legs are fixed together and slide out as one solid piece. I like that. It's in very good condition and the chairs are in good shape. But, I shall take a pass. It's not close enough to my style, no matter how great the price. Thanks again, all. Sooey

Lovely table.....walnut including wide boards with sap wood....likely dates not later than 1890 and most likely earlier. Where did youg et it? What part of the country do you live in? I am posting from it's cousin, I use it as my computer table/desk....junk collector table. What sort of mechanism does it have to support the leaves?
