I didn't know about the water bath!
Comments (5)LOL! Tough question because everyone get's different results. But if you make your own recipe from Portlands, peat, sand, etc and aren't adding any admixes then a water bath is probably terrific. But if you are using stuff like quickwall, topping cements, and grouts then to be safe you are probably better to just keep them misted and not submerge them. Some of these premixes require contact with the air to cure correctly. So the short answer is if it's your own recipe using Portlands a water bath is probably good. If you are using premixes it might be a good idea to stick with the misting and covered with plastic. Most premixes are plenty strong anyway so the water bath is probably over kill. Just my opinion, because even when I ask the experts I get conflicting answers.:)...See MoreThat's a Safety Feature I Didn't Know About
Comments (12)When we renovated our kitchen two years ago, I kept our electric built in oven, but bought a gas cook top. I went to a home improvement box, and the clerk swore they didn't make pilot light gas cook tops anymore, so I grabs his catalogue and found it, of course. He moans and groans and says he'll have to order it, and I assure him I'm fine with that, thankyouverymuch. Here's what I've noticed about appliances, vacuums, sewing machines and the like in the last couple decades. Used to be the very stripped down simple basic models were heavy and well made, just not as fancy. You paid for the extras. Now, they all come with extras whether you want them or not, and have replaced the glass and metal components with cheezy plastic wherever they could get away with it and just overall cheapened up the quality of the units. I took a sweeper back to the big "S" store I'd bought and used once. The belt broke, no big deal, but I looked at it to replace it and it was little more than a large rubber band. There was an alien repair man on duty and I showed it to him, once I got past the clerk with the attitude and he didn't speak much English. He looks at what I am showing him, sucks in his breath and says that's a piece of ............... you fill in the blank because I can't repeat that word here. LOL. And since I am on a roll, whoever thought up the idea of nylon gears?...See MoreI didn't know this about Property taxes
Comments (10)Here in Allegheny county, in Western Pennsylvania, the house and school taxes used to be pro-rated on our home at %25 percent of market value! Then, when the county fell on hard times, they paid a judge to change the taxing formula from 25 percent to 100 percent of assessed valuation! (market value) This way, they could set a value and we could appeal, with much rigamarole, time spent at the county courthouse, and paying exorbitant parking rates downtown, to file an appeal, along with attorney fees, and other costs! This usually resulted in a slight reduction, which had to be gone thru every year! I'm a disabled veteran, living on SS and my disability check. Guess what that did to our life! And, i get no discount for that either! And then, to add insult to injury, the big shots decided to re-assess every year or so! Our home taxes keep going higher every year and we'll soon be on our "uppers", as the old saying goes! Twice a month there is a long list of poor folks homes being sold by the county sheriff for back taxes! (like 4 1/2 pages) There are lots of old folks living around here, old mill workers, all kinds of folks living out their last days, unable to move anywhere else, being hauled out to the street in the coldest weather, and left out there with no where to go! The Governer says he's going to change all that, but, he has money and time for everything else, and the sales go on! by: Rustyj...See MoreSome things I DIDN'T know about the infamous oil leak
Comments (11)A while ago there were suggestions that Obama should do something. Let's not forget, that in recent times they've been dropping their drilling bits down through a whole mile of water before they even start drilling for the oil. And off Newfoundland, they're going even deeper. Bush Senior ... was an oil man. Bush Junior - another oil man. Condoleesa Rice was well connected in the oil industry. Cheney was, also. And I've heard suggestions that he was involved with a substantial amount of deregulations, back then. We know that the oil industry types chafe under regulations. The banking people do, as well. It seems to me that when employees, regardless of how high up they are in an organization, almost run their company into the ground, so much so that it takes multiple billions ot taxpayers' money to bail them out ... ... that they deserve to be fired, rather than to feel justified in demanding major bonuses at year end. ole joyful...See More2ManyDiversions
