Are you centering the fixtures over the island, or just on the overhang/seating area? (I'm assuming the larger side of the island is for seating, correct?)

Yes, there will be about 22" of overhang for legroom (I know that's deeper than usual but my husband is very tall!). I planned on centering them on the island as a whole-

Do you have any pendants that you like I think you can go pretty large with that big of an island. How tall are your ceilings? I think the current trend is larger dramatic pendants. Is the kitchen installed yet? You can probably go pretty big if you get open looking pendants. I would look for some inspiration pictures and then have people weigh in on those.

Nicole, what is your style? What kind of pendants are you looking at? If you have some inspiration pics, I can search for you.

Our island is 48" wide and 9'6" long, ceiling is 9 feet. We went with 2 pendants that are 18" wide by 27" high. They certainly make a statement. I thought going with 3 smaller ones would be too busy.

Boxerpal, I'm going to do this 7-light globe ombré chandelier from West elm in my dining room and I like these "Sputnik" styles for my kitchen nook. I haven't found anything for the island that I like that Coordinates with these but also stands alone (isn't necessarily a globe style). Here are pics of my kitchen materials... opens to a large family room with cedar beams, stone fireplace. 2-story Entry way is white judges panel to ceiling. I like clean lines but because we've lived overseas a long time, I have a lot of antique and electric pieces that add a lot of character. I also have four little kids so I want a warm but stylish home.

Nanj- can you share a pic? I think that two larger are more dramatic, too!

And this is the main wall behind the island which the island is centered on- so pendants will frame the hood.

boxer YES! all of it... the first two photos would be amazing- i'll search them for sizing. i also love the white dome shaped one with gold inside- so pretty. thank you! and be safe- we're in NC but inland so we just have lots of water and our generator on standby. they cancelled schools yesterday and today but it's still pretty quiet here.

Our island is going to be the same size as yours and I'm using two pendants 23" diameter. We'll have 12' ceilings so I don't know if that makes any difference.
