Lighting Design Dilemma Kitchens

Need help with lighting fixture ideas over island and sink

I have chrome faucets, dark brown cabinets, and ORB hardware. It is an open floor plan and the other rooms have satin nickle lights, but that does not work with the chrome faucets that cannot change. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Granite is a grayish tan color. Close up of granite is below in addition to the kitchen. I don't want glass for cleaning purposes.

The dark cabinetry and lighting thus far look great. Althought I like hanging fixtures, if possible I think I would be inclined to stay with recessed cans to maintain the focus on the cabinetry.

Thanks - If I went with recessed in the middle would it look funny that there are three in a row and nothing else in that area. Do you know of any pictures with kitchen like this? If so, I would love to see them. I am a visual person so all I see is three holes in the open ceiling area.

When we started our kitchen makeover, I also wanted a pendant over the sink, but the contracted didn't recommend it. I still looked around at different lighting stores, but didn't see anything that I had in mind to match my fixture over the table. When I went to the store that I purchased my fixture for over the table, he suggested to stick with a standard highhat for over the sink, and that it would give me better lightning. We did that. That is some really nice granite! I decided to take a look at some pendant lights (I assume they'll go over an island, but if you need something else, like a ceiling semi-flush mount, please let me know) and chose to look at pendants with nickel finish to go with the cabinet handles. I can expand the search to include bronze or other finish families too, though! Not to be contrarian, but I personally like the look of pendants in front of a window. I'd do a single pendant that is visible from the outside. I did this in front of two windows in my kitchen, with counter prep space in front of each window, and when I walk my dog in the wee hours of the morning I LOVE seeing the warm glow of those pendants as I return home. Also note that I did a matching, but shorter, pendant over my kitchen table (in the foreground but outside the view of this photo). Because sinks are a work area, I'd recommend an enclosed or downward-directed fixture there.

Yes, if you went with recessed, you could add more to the middle.

I think you need something with glass pendants so it wouldn't block your cabinets and base can be chrome or satin nickel. I actually have chrome on base of my pendants and brushed nickel faucet.

no, we have white cabinets as everyone else now :). But the idea is the same, glass pendants don't block view and add some sparkle to the kitchen.

i'd do pendants in a heartbeat. you can mix and match your metals too.

do something w/glass so it allows a 'see-through' behind it.

I love the look of the glass pendants, but when I went to the store all of the pendants were dusty or the glass was cloudy. Which made me think of how often I would have to wash these pendants since we do a fair amount of cooking. I did find another pendant, which is not see through but does incorporate the chrome look. Once they are in I will need to figure out if they will all be at the same height or if the middle one will be higher. Thanks to all and I will send pictures once they are in.
