UPDATE: winter sowing up-date pt 3
Comments (56)I got my seeds December 13 but I was in a self-imposed exile from the boards at the time (mandated extra hours of work, and GardenWeb forum browsing is a real time-sponge for me :-]), so although I did email Sue that I received them, now that I am done with work I wanted to post my heartfelt thanks to all who checked my list and their stashes for matches, and particularly shimla, poisondartfrog, remy, etravia, flowergardenlady, linda0210, and kandituft who have reduced my wish list, and especially susiek who not only helped reduce my wish list but hosted this great swap and restored my faith in big swaps :-). Getting that package in the mail was a big mood-lifter! I have ramped up milk jug collecting (planning a trip to the recycling center to swipe some from there) and bought 200 pounds of soil from Wal-Mart. Thanks again to everybody. Susie, ya done good. :-) Terri/rofLoL ;-)...See MoreMy dated kitchen & living room need help
Comments (34)Just paint that trim! why try and match flooring to it? Do a little everyday, and within a month it will be done. seriously. paint for like, an hour a day. It's not a big deal. (make sure you clean them and prime them if necessary. I don't know if they're that 'plastic-wood type of molding or real wood) you only have 800 sq ft. not that much to do. leave the bedrooms if you want. You said you wanted an update. just throwing down LVP isn't really an update. So paint the trim! leave the doors if you want, as it looks fine w/white trim work. those melamine cabs can be painted, but why bother? check Craigslist for people practically giving away these solid oak cabinets and paint those. or try the Ikea. I've see people on craigslist sell an entire oak kitchen with granite and appliances for under 1K....See MoreMy dated 80's kitchen needs a makeover!
Comments (9)Thanks everyone I really appreciate all of your feedback. I like the backsplash but don't love it for the look I'm trying to achieve but my husband picked it and I was trying to see if I could make it work. I think at this point I'm leaning toward running the countertops all the way up for backsplash. As for the question @jck910 to the right is a doorway into the dining room. I have a budget of around $15 - 18K and the vast majority is going to custom cabinets. So The island will be flipped the long part will face the stove and fridge so I will have seating along the two sides (side facing family room and the outside wall). I really wanted to take down the wall into the dining room but its load bearing and I would lose upper cabinets. So the only way to make it work is to flip the kitchen and make the L from the wall that looks into the family room which you don't see in the picture posted. There is a round table and a closet on that side of the wall (I have an 80's quad) and the wall the leads to the outside of the house. Which would mean moving pluming, gas electric and moving the stairs and sliding doors leading to the outside and relocating to the dining room which would be a $50K + project. So the compromise was to keep the current footprint. I know not everyone would agree with the decision and I wish I had the extra cash to do the way I have always envisioned it but it is what it is. I am going to wait on the light fixtures until I decide what I'm doing with the backsplash. But will likely be something simple and a Champaign gold. But yes all lighting will change. The current lights won't go with the new look. I am leaning towards a decretive hood which is why I was keeping the microwave in the same place. If anyone has pictures you think would work for counters I would love to see. I would love to do some light blue glass tile for the backsplash (I know doesn't fit with inspiration) but I don't think I'm brave enough for that. I also cook a lot so I need something that is easy to clean which is another reason to run the countertop all the way up. So thanks again everyone and if you have pictures that you think will help in my quest please share!...See MoreHelp! I hate my New Kitchen Cabinets - Updated I'm starting to love!
Comments (77)Beth H. : thank you. He made the countertop himself out of 2 3/4" plywood and we bought formica 180fx laminate for the counters (and done the ideal edge) and used the same 180fx for the backsplash. I know alot of ppl don't like laminate, but I actually do and I do alot of food preserving and canning and the backsplash washes off so easily. With hubby doing all the work and making everything himself the total price of our whole house remodel came to $20,000. And that included, 6 new windows, 2 full baths, a kitchen, and flooring.... (during covid with prices more than double on alot of things. So we saved quite a bit! Overall, I love the way it turned out! And I'm extremely proud of my hubby!...See Moresg8
