Dishwasher Tabs--am I missing something?
Comments (13)There are very few DW detergents that don't smell like bleach and/or fragrance. Method Smarty tabs are one of the few. That's my number-1 requirement. That they're tabs is not important to me; if the same no-bleach no-fragrance detergent were offered in a powder form, I'd buy that too. I do find that just the 1/2 tab works great in my Miele unless dinner has been unusually greasy or stuck-on. There are so many reports of dishes/glasses etching, and I believe it's cause people use too much detergent in their DWs (and that people rinse before DWing). The Method Smarty tabs are easy to break in half (which halves the price overall too), and I don't have to mess with a powder or gel, just plop in the 1/2 tab in the dispenser....See MoreAdvantium: Am I missing something?
Comments (12)I don't want to hijack this thread so I'll only ask a couple more questions... Though a speed oven would be great... it's not a priority. I really want to 2nd oven/micro for when I bake only small amounts ( one batch), roast a chicken or bake fish for two, basically, any roasting/baking for two people; plus if it's also a MW; I'd want the conversion to be easy. I think I'd want at least a 1.6 cu. and convection for sure. Are you saying the other manufacturers you mentioned will be better suited for my needs? A better product? The difference of $600 is not a deal breaker for me. I'm interested in function first, then asthetics, then $$ (within reason). I know the Miele is very highly regarded but I think would be more then my induction range which I'm not willing to do. Thanks for any additional info and MERRY CHRISTMAS! Comments (39)It might also help to know which room in the house this area is in (living room, den, entry hall/foyer), as well as what/how the room and the area in the room are used for. Will this area actually be used or are you just trying to fill up a space you consider empty? And in either case, are you able to "shop" your home first before buying anything new?...See MoreLayout (Am I missing something?)
Comments (28)Thank you all so much! I appreciate all of your input. Each one of you has given me pause and made me go though this process more thoroughly. :-) MamaGoose, I like moving the prep sink over, but that idea makes DH cranky (he wants to bring up the bags and bags of groceries and be able to dump them directly on the island closest to the basement door. And for nothing to encroach on his work triangle (to and from the patio grill, pantry with grill tools, and island to put down the cooked food). And I prefer the sink closer to the fridge because of how I cook (I lay out all of the vegetables and meats, with two separate cutting boards, then prep and make a big mess, then cook and clean up the mess). Ccwaters, I agree - love landings! But for double wall ovens, I'll want a really good size landing for all of the big Pyrex dishes I stick in the ovens. Cpartist, your layout with the turning the island is still my favorite (after cutting out scale-size islands and ovens etc. and moving them around and then using pencils to represent the people in my kitchen and how we move, lol). The downside is that with my aisle space needs ( drew dots on the drawings where the island would need to be placed, and then placed the rectangle there), the island would encroach on the dining room (and the dropped beam molding that will give a visual separation). Have to think about that one more, because visually I like keeping the spaces open but with some sort of separated look, since this is a colonial and I want everything to flow well. Definitely need to ponder that idea more before committing....See Moresuezbell
