Fireplaces living room

Help with ideas to finish fireplace

We have recently remodeled our living room and added builtins around the fireplace. The mantle piece looks like it still needs something and we were going to add corbels but none look right. Also, any ideas on filling or covering the gaps between the brick and wood? Please help!

Did you ever finish this?

Here's an idea. Add a panel under the mantel to match your cabinet doors and then add a glass door to the fireplace to give it a finished look like this:

I watched an HGTV episode recently where they placed several layers of compound right over the brick; sanding and smoothing in between coats until they achieved the desired surface. They then built a surround with mulitple layers of MDF and built up a molding. Inside the surround they laid out a light colored stone... something like a flagstone. On either side they built white open shelving to house home theater equipment. Sounds a little like what you want. Now... I'm a HUGE fan of glass tile but once you do it... you're kind of married to it due to expense. The beauty of this "spackle" treatment... is you can change out the color, making it an accent wall or blend it in with the existing cabinetry giving it a real built in look. The episode was pretty cool because the chiseled out the stone to create a thick deep enough groove into which they laid tubing through which they ran the all the wires for the home theater equipment. I would paint the ceiling white but not the beams and stain the beams same color as whatever you do for fireplace. floors would do hardwood

Love those pendants! I love Tuscany but even when the faux Tuscan look was ”stylish” like you, I never liked it. That green is just gorgeous 3pinktrees! I have to admit I am a little OCD as far as something not being authentic and in your words, trying to be something that it’s not. I do like simple more than most, just ask Lyn. :))) It sounds like you know what you want and it will be gorgeous. Can’t wait to see what you do.

Unfortunately the shiplap feels out of place in this very contemporary setting....and is presenting a big solid block of white that diminishes the scale of the fireplace...with your floor treatment being distressed it may help to distress the the ship lap to blend better with whatever whitening finish you add to the bricks..and perhaps add some vertical pieces to create squares that relate better to the architecture and windows...generally speaking none of these treatments are well suited to your type of home
