Design Dilemma Furniture home office

Room Ideas sitting / office

We have decided to set a new direction for our formal living room. We want to use the space for a sitting room / office. don't want to over emphasize the office necessarily. read a book take a call work from home / video conference.

Room is 14 x 11 right when you come in. it bumps in in one corner 2 feet by 3.5 feet.

current ideas on table... live edge or drafting desk , and reclaimed doors as barn doors.

anxious to see what the Houzz community comes up with.

Hello. You have a very busy floor and I would suggest solid colored surfaces you add. I like the idea of a drafting desk rather than the natural pattern I have seen in live edge wood. Also, if the reclaimed wood doors are similar in color to your floors, it think it would be overload.

Thanks, I get your point on the live edge. I am assuming we may have an area rug in there of some size. The reclaimed doors we were thinking painted ones maybe with windows... they would generally be open. Almost like a feature on each side of the opening you see on the left.

If you would like some assistance I suggest you give some better photos of all walls in the room, along with the room dimensions. If the computer and desk are staying, then we need to see those, and photos of dining room if it opens onto it. Sorry, but showing a photo of clutter isn’t going to get any helpful responses.

But Sabrina, the OP doesnt like the wall color! Im sure its a fine color in other contexts, but It doesnt work in combination with the rich gold-brownss of the floor. Now there are warmer/browner grays that could work.... but that aint it. I would start with the floor - get a fan deck from the paint store and find a color or several colors that are close. NOT THAT YOU are going to paint anything that color - good heavens no - just use it for reference when starting your selection process for furniture and furnishings.

Accent Ideas for office/guest room

Looking to add some accents to this white office cum guest room. Behind the table is a murphy bed. When we have guests over, the table would go away and we’ll have the bed open. I am planning to put an art behind the wall, but want to get suggestions on what kind of accents will enhance the look of the side pillars. I have not-so-destructive kids at home, so something slightly kid friendly would be a bonus. I am hoping to add a pop of color, but honestly open to all suggestions.

I love the floors but would stay neutral on desk and other furniture. Maybe a solid wood desk, 2 neutral grayish chairs and a solid book case. A floor lamp.

Any ideas on orientation or how to use the space? The right wall has 2 windows with 5 feet of space in between.

I would place a long narrow credenza-like desk on the back wall. A light beautiful desk chair, not the big leather things you would find in a full time office. Place two chairs and an ottoman on a rug, facing the entry. Do you have floor plugs for lamps?

I am concerned that you may not be able to put enough light in the center of the room without running cords. Have you considered recessed lights?

I have not but we have them in the next room. Also have a good electrician.

If you want to do anything live edge you are going to want to get a rug to cover the flooring, as it is very busy. Here are some of our recent office designs to aid you in some desk/office options.
