Paint Design Dilemma Kitchens

What color paint for walls & cabinets with luna pearl granite counters

We just moved and redoing the kitchen is not an option...We have stainless steel appliances, medium gray linoleum floors and luna pearl granite counter tops. It is a medium sized kitchen, not very bright just a smallish amount of southern exposure light. Our counter tops have a bit of pink in them (which I would like to downplay). Everyone says white but I cook a lot and have toddlers and really hate white kitchen cabinets. Any suggestions or pictures!

A pro paint job will likely be pretty pricey. And a home paint job will be a lot of work and won’t hold up as well as a factory finish. I did paint cabinets now in our first house. It made a big difference, but it was a ton of work for a tiny kitchen. I wouldn’t want to tackle that job with kids. It’s hard to say without pictures, but I would think twice about painting cabinets.

The cabinets are Merillat Classic Oak in a Natural finish. Sorry, I don't have any pictures of the cabinets. However we were hoping that the Emerald Pearl, because it is basically a medium to dark gray, would help neutralize the yellowness of the oak. Whatever paint color is chosen it needs to be light because the kitchen is open to a great room and what is chosen in the kitchen will need to be continued into the great room. Appliances are white and too new to replace. The wood trim throughout the condo is painted BM Linen White and currently the wall color is BM Palace White which will be changed after the granite is chosen. I like the putty idea. Have any of you had experience with Restoration Hardware's line of paint? They have some pretty colors and one group of neutrals are gray/putty that aren't too deep. Thanks again for your help.

It's a classic granite, used for fireplaces and buildings long before the granite kitchen counter era. I've seen it in a kitchen with pale rose or peachy walls and grey cabinets. It was lovely. It's also a good blend with terracotta tile floors. If you want to emphasize the rose flecks, use a color that matches them on the walls. If you want to minimize them, use a neutral grey.

I agree with not rushing paint, however I do have a few ideas for you to think about. Paint choosing is a long process and you want to get a feel for ideas. No rush, just think about what you like. With your two different woods (floor and cabs) and light counters I wonder if a cream color in your walls might be pretty. Does your kitchen open to another room? I think it depends on what kind of feel you want for your kitchen. The white cabinets will bring freshness and a light grey island would go along with that feeling. A dark gray, especially a warm dark gray, would bring richness. Although it's difficult to tell from your pictures, it looks like you have a small island relative to the number of wall and base cabinets. If you go dark, the island might look out of place. Painting the island white or light gray might make your kitchen appear larger and more cohesive. If you can, post pictures of your cabinet/counter/paint swatches and it might be easier to help you decide. Good luck with your project.

Thanks for the response. crl we are hiring a professional for the job and we'll be out of town when they do the work. We have a quote from a few months ago but are struggling over the color.

Can you get some samples of various paint colors in the gray or blue gray family that might help you narrow it down to the one you love the most? My instinct says to avoid finding a gray color as that will be really challenging to match the perfect gray with the grays you have. Rather find something with green or blue hue and a gray base. That way you won't have to try to match it perfectly.

I too have struggled with blues. Here are a few of my favorites.
