Please provide help on exterior finishes
Comments (3)Hi all, Searching GOOGLE i found a very interesting guide about pavers , i found the following section specially interesting for people not full familiar with this specific industry but you can found the full article at: 1. How are paving stones made? Briefly, paving stones are made by combining cement, stones, sand, color and minimal amount of water. These materials are combined by predetermined recipes in a steel mold of the shape desired. Under high vibration and hydraulic pressure the materials are compacted in the mold to create the paving stone you selected. The product is then set aside to air dry, subsequently packaged and shipped to the jobsite. 2. What about colors? A2. The paving stone color desired is achieved by conditioning various pigments in specific recipes. The color is included in the manufacturing process and your paving stone will have your selected color through the entire stone not just on top and not just a tinting of color in the base. You may also notice slight color variations within your project. Color variations are most noticeable when a project utilizes one solid color throughout the project (....) Photos at this site give some ideas too, are very nice. Kind regards Marie Here is a link that might be useful: Florida Pavers...See MoreHelp finishing exterior- at a loss???
Comments (16)illigirl- Thanks for the kind words! I've been following your build, yours is looking fabulous and I wish I as far along as you! nepool- Thanks! I will check out SW Oyster Bay as well. Thanks for the compliment! I think they did a great job on the siding, the cypress is all rough sawn from a local mill and didn't always want to cooperate! Annie- Thanks for taking the time to put the seeds together! You're so good at pulling those together so fast! We both usually lean towards greens, and other natural, earthy tones. But I have been tossing around a more blueish hued green, similar to the first design seed. That's where I got myself confused, will a blue/green tone look better than thyme green with the rock/ siding or conflict. DH is not much help, so I shamelessly came to GW to beg for help! Thanks again!...See MoreHELP!!! Exterior trim color help needed!
Comments (5)Hi kled, I really think - especially with such a large lovely structure - that this is a job for a professional designer. Having gotten that out of the way, I recently replaced all my fascia (and replacing gutters too) which was painted a dark red. It looked okay on my red-orange brick house, but I wanted something lighter colored. I finally chose a sand-tone color. But, how did I choose? Well, I took a photo of a wall that was fairly representative, in decent light. And then I looked at it on my computer to see if the colors seemed pretty accurate. Then I loaded the photo into a graphics program and "selected" the red fascia and gutters and experimented with substituting with different colors - via the graphics program. I'd like to tell you that I'm completely happy with the sand-tone color I ended up with, but the jury is still out on that. But, I think I'll like it (Once I get all the gutters & downspouts installed and trim painted). There are so many ways to go with color - really hard to advise someone else....See MoreNeed exterior help/paint faux brick exterior?
Comments (15)I'm usually not one to criticize here on Houzz so let me get this over with now...your house is both a color and architectural disaster. I'm not a fan of the current color...it is not a very pleasant color and is dated, as well. As it is the primary color, I'd start with changing it, then selecting a color for the brick. I'm wondering if you might be OK with the brick in its current state if the other siding is a different color. I am with your husband when it comes to whitewashing brick...it has its place - usually on much older structures - but I don't see it working well with your house. Would the same paint color on the brick and garage door work? The white garage door claims too much attention and shouldn't (it is nearly the home's focal point)...it is just another garage door and nothing special to look at. The white windows are doing a bit of the same thing...calling attention to themselves even though the bay window is a totally different style than the upper-floor windows. You have endless new subdivisions being constructed in Southern California...pay a visit to some of those to check out the current trends in color....See MoreKristin Roberts
