Does a combi microwave/warming oven exist??
Comments (10)I would think any convection microwave would fill the bill. the only issue might be its minimum oven temperature. The GE countertop I have has a minimum convection temp of 225F. The Advantium 120v (according to the users guide) has a minimum of 250F. Either of these should be capable of doing what you want. The countertop unit is around $600, the OTR Advantium arount $1000, the built-in Advantium 220 around $2600. PS: I"m not a big fan of the GE countertop. I prefer the Sharp....See MoreCan you toast in a microwave?
Comments (13)Chisue, I can't even find a good, new toaster oven! By that, I mean one that makes good toast. But, yes, I think the technologies are probably incompatible. They do make those toaster ovens with a popup toaster attached, or with a couple of electric burners on top, etc. They've been making them for decades, so they must sell well enough to keep making them. Maybe what they need to do is figure out how to make an appliance that's a convection microwave with a toasting drawer underneath, kind of like the broiler on a gas oven. It would only need to be the height of one of the old, good toast toaster ovens, like 6-8" high, Just enough room in the drawer for a bagel or a baking dish. Then have a small microwave on top. If it would require too much electricity to use both at once, there could just be a switch to choose modes. So...I figured I couldn't be the only one, and I Googled. They do make microwaves with popup style toasters attached, though they pop out instead of up. There's a little door that covers the slots when not in use. Another version has a basket that slides out instead of the slots. THEN I found this picture of exactly what I described on Pinterest. It's supposed to be Kenmore but the link is broken. HA! Found it! Through Google Images camera thing. It's LG and is supposed to be a convection microwave pizza oven combo. There's also a Daewoo MW with a little pizza compartment in the top. Do they eat a lot of pizza in Korea, or is this what they think Americans want? Lots of good reviews, including one that talks about toast being browned on both sides. Didn't rave about the toast (didn't rate the quality of the toast at all, just compared it to toaster oven), but it toasts. :) Apparently, everybody is wowed by the frozen pizza setting. :) Someone on Chowhound said the Miele speed oven with the Max Broil setting did a good job toasting a bagel....See MoreHow can I make salted toasted almonds?
Comments (6)Although the oil and salt method works well, you don't necessarily need the extra oil. BUT, without oil you have to wait and add the salt when they are hot out of the oven. Added oil essentially holds the salt onto the almonds. Place a pound of raw almonds onto a rimmed sheet pan or cake pan (single layer of almonds) and bake in a 350-degree F oven for 10-15 minutes (stir once during baking time). Salt when they come out of the oven. The natural oil in almonds will help hold the salt when they are hot out of the oven. I've included a link to a third method which includes soaking the almonds overnight in lightly-salted water. This method causes the almonds to begin sprouting which results in almonds that are easier to digest and have more available nutrition in them. This is the method I generally use. Always nice to have choices.... -Grainlady Here is a link that might be useful: How to Soak & Roast Almonds...See MoreReliable microwave. Does it exist?
Comments (15)I just replaced a 15 year old Panasonic that worked perfectly, but the door wouldn't latch unless you slammed it shut like 10 times. Waiting for it to die was getting on my nerves. I ordered a Panasonic NN-SD78LS from Amazon (delivered in 3 days), & I'm very impressed with the Sensor Cook feature. It cooks even better than the old model did. I use it routinely to cook oatmeal, potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, broccoli, green beans, cauliflower, pot pies, nachos. I've yet to see if the defrost feature has improved, though. It has a dial for setting cooking time or making menu selections. It's faster than pushing buttons to cycle through menus -- nice....See MoreKim Q
