Down to the last three choices for garage door..need input
Comments (13)Ah, thanks for responding, lyban :) Well, we need 4 windows because we found a residential ribbed door that is *better* built than the "commercial" door I first found (except for insulation--but it's got a lifetime warranty on *everything* including springs, and is thicker steel--it's the Amarr Heritage 3000, if anyone's interested), and it comes with 4 windows rather than 3. I really wish we could do 3 but we can't. 3 would have made it unique. What I mean about painting the stiles and rails on the Westfield is that what happens a lot is, instead of painting the whole door the same color, painting the raised crosspieces the same color as the house trim color. So it sounds like the many directions of siding and ribbing don't bug you--I just wanted to make sure that it wouldn't have the effect egganddart had mentioned--but now I think it will actually work, since it's not an interruption of the lines of the house but rather a continuation. I guess the flush panels could be seen as more of an interruption, actually, since we don't have any flush areas on the house. lyban, I owe you one :) (and spanky, and eggandddart, and scottmel and kswl and mimi and squirrel and lindybarts and amysrq and so many other folks here -- I feel like my soon-to-be-restored house facade should have a credits page :))...See MoreYour thoughts on this color choice?
Comments (35)The house I posted was in Florida, too! I suspected that's where you were :) I think the white trim will look nice with the white roof, just my humble opinion. Biscayne bay looks like it could be REALLY nice. I've seen some darker-medium dark grey houses popping up in Sarasota but not too many. Light grey with white roof, white trim. Notice the blue/grey toned driveway and lack of reddish in the landscaping. Notice their grey reads light but is clearly darker than your first try. Exterior colors get a bit washed out looking especially in bright sunlight. This post was edited by robotropolis on Fri, Jan 23, 15 at 13:14...See MoreCan I get your thoughts on these door styles?
Comments (14)Mayflowers: you raise a good point about the wood grain. (no pun intended...raise the grain..nevermind) With the rustic alder the wood IS the primary element. Thank you for pointing that out. I like your slab drawers, too and as Joanie points out, easy to clean. That was part of my initial kitchen 'statement'. Ok. This is helping. Maybe like you did, whatever panel on the bigger drawers and doors and then slab on the smaller drawers and the lazy susan? I do agree with you, too KathyNY76 that I'm not feeling the 'all slab' but a combination is appealing....See MoreWhat are your thoughts on faux wood doors as a focal point?
Comments (2)I'm fairly well settled on a faux-wood double garage door to replace the current wood one. The color I'm planning on with coordinate with the brick, being similar in tone and color variation, and my hope is that it will look nice but not stand out. Right now the door is the same color as the siding, which makes it look like too much siding. Can't paint it the color of the brick because of the shades, and a solid brownish color will overwhelm. All this is to say, consider what is going on with the rest of your house, and the be sure the style, not just the color, of the garage doors coordinate with the house....See MoreMy3dogs ME zone 5A
