I know this is a super old thread but maybe there are other people searching for Massoud and not finding anything. So I want to help before you make the mistake we made. We have a Hickory White sofa with bench cushion that has help up well with moderate use over 7 years. Fabric, frame and cushions in good quality. We just bought 2 Marge Carson sofas, and the fabric was pilling badly after TWO weeks of use (they say it was a QC issue and they are sending replacement covers, we'll see). Now let's talk Massoud: We bought 2 club chairs that were very expensive. Fabric is gorgeous, craftsmanship looks fine, but the upholstery material is cheap and flimsy. It feels like dorm room seat cushions you buy at Walmart. It even makes a little crunchy noise when you sit. Seriously. My husband is a tall 250lbs man, and he seats on the chairs for more than 30 min and the seat is crushed, and it takes a day to go back to normal. We flip the seat and back pillows DAILY and still, they are embarrassingly crushed after 2 months of use. We are beating ourselves up for having believed that $$$$ equaled quality. Don’t buy Massoud!

fori, I was actually surprised how dead-on the form of your piece actually was to those early 19th c. examples. I was expecting a little more artistic license but while they appeared to take details Off, they didn't really try to stick anything else On, and that's good :) jterrilyn, I am also a fan of this type of furniture, whether moderne or colonial-revival. The better examples still pretty much follow the proportions of the originals, and are actually much better scaled than a lot of today's furniture. And even the kind of ugly stuff is still solid as a rock. I have a very small dresser, maybe 15" by 30" by 36" that my mother bought "in the dime store" when she went to college in 1952 it's survived trips from Virginia to Philadelphia to Pittsburgh and back again as well as a flood in my parents old house, and various other traumas, and it is still solid. It probably cost her $5.00 new, it was that era's example of disposable furniture, and 60 years later it's still hanging around.

I don't plan on having a lot of "stuff" in the office. But I think I'd have to have just the right desk to make this work. I haven't settled on a new desk, and will probably use one of two existing ones in the mean time -- a simple frosted glass with chrome legs, or a 1920s English oak refectory-type table/desk. There is also a small sitting/work area at the end of the office. It's about 7.5' x 9'. I could perhaps use these chairs down there with an interesting table and put something more subdued as the guest chairs at the desk. In defense of the dissing of photo portraits, we were standing near a couple that looked very much like a senior picture. Picture a photo of a pleasant-looking young woman, from the shoulders up, with some trees in the background. Not dramatic trees, not "forest at midnight & mysterious mood lighting". Just person in front of some trees, and a person who looks to be dressed in something you could buy today. The composition was about as interesting as the "sample picture" that is in a lot of frames at Target. Not bad ... but not something I really understood. I can understand feeling a connection with a portrait of someone with an interesting face or a cultural significance. And I've seen some antique photo portraits used in homes that were pretty interesting & worked with the space. I still don't know that I want to buy a photo that has a person looking at me, though. I wonder if it goes back to having those pictures of "little girls with BIG eyes" around when I was a kid? It's hard to explain, but these looked like someone walked into a high school in AnyTown, USA & chose one of the pretty girls with attractive (but not stunning) features and said, "Hey, can you stand over here in front of these trees? I'm going to take a few black & white shots ..." At least, that's what it looked like to me. But then again, many critics denounced Impressionistic paintings when that style first started because they just didn't get it. I might be like one of them ;)
