Help me re-design my unused formal dining room!! Open to advice please
Comments (10)Is another living room the greatest need you have in your house? Will it be for the kids to hang out in? Or a quieter adult retreat? We turned our dining room into a home office with matching desks facing each other placed in the middle of the room, so together they are about the same size as a dining table. It looks like it might be large enough to fit a modestly sized sofa in there, with a small round table with 2-4 chairs that you could use as a gaming table. Any musicians? What about a music room?...See MoreNeed help designing/decorating my dining room.

Depending on budget, I'd keep the two black chairs (if they're Ikea's Poang chairs, I know they're comfortable) because they're neutral and allow great flexibility. When you do a gallery wall, don't use those frames with multiple openings for snapshots or anything like that cluster you have now. Choose your very best candid shots; remember, this is your artwork so it should be compelling. You can create a cohesive gallery wall by framing all the photos the same, or by converting them all to black and white or sepia tone. It's pretty inexpensive now to have them printed on canvas and stretched. One of my favorite uses of family photos is this:There are some articles on Houzz about creating gallery walls. The trick is to keep your grouping tight, to vary the sizes and orientations of frames, and to arrange them in a way that creates balance and movement. Houzz doesn't seem to be working right now. I'm going to quit my browser and return....See MoreHelp me design my dining room!

Comments (2)Longer draperies hung higher on “c” rings will function easier and look better. Relocate the kitty tower and vacuum cleaners. Coffee spot could be a shallow cabinet placed on the long wall in the space between the dining area and the kitchen. The decorative medallions are hung a little high…the center of the artwork should be 57” off floor. Then artwork on the back wall (opposite kitchen). The brown end panels…could they be painted/wallpapered/or finished with matching kitchen cabinet panels?...See Morekulrn
