Here's my "stockbroker tudor" (in Rochester, NY), built 1928. Half the houses in my neighborhood are tudor/cotswold revival and half are colonial revival. They mostly have similar late-20's colonial style interiors, although some of the finer examples of tudor have panelling, beamed ceilings, rough-plastering, and planked floors. They're total Ford homes, with two-car attached garages. I totally agree with the sentiment that any funky old style will look good. You'll be fine as long as you stay away from 50's mod or Ikea / Danish Modern / Scandanavian. Here's our living room, decorated with castoff stuff. Two kids leave little room in the decorating budget! We ended up with a "second-hand eclectic" style... A different angle: Sadly, the trim and french doors were ripped out of the downstairs during a 1950's remuddling. The stark flat white paint is a gift from the previous owners, who used rollers to spread it from 5-gallon buckets that they bought at Mr. Second's... Many of the colonial interiors of the era have ornate interior trim that was originally painted. You'd have a devil of a time stripping. Too, it will never look right because they would have used a lesser wood. We weren't aware of this when we moved in, but the upstairs of our house is trimmed in mahogany (carelessly slathered with thick white paint, of course.) We're slowly stripping it. No lead paint, so far! The master bedroom and nursery: Oooh, mahogany: I guess for decorating, I'd say just keep your eyes open. When you see something you like, buy it. Don't think you'll come back later. Either you won't, or it will be gone. We got our buffet, some tables, chairs, etc, from garbage piles, so really keep your eyes open!

Congratulations! That's a great looking house. You can make it into anything you like- it's a blank slate. Imagine if throughout Europe people decorated their houses according to the style of the exterior or period it was built? I can promise you nobody in London feels compelled to feature Victorian furnishing or kitchen fittings in a Victorian era house. I would pay more attention to the environment where you live. Currently I live in the Bay Area. Houses here have outstanding natural light and fantastic indoor/outdoor spaces that reflect the special nature of our geographical setting- that along with some good seismic precautions and outrageous price per square foot of dirt ratios- but those are the things that make a Bay Area home special.

I wouldn't worry about what to call it. If you like a more modern type of farmhouse look, this exterior is probably one of the easiest to make it look like one. Check out these pics and follow what they've done. Since you're getting new windows, look at doing the darker exterior color like black or a dark bronze, bring in some wood accents, and if you need a new roof at some point, look at metal. your little overhang porch could easily be done like this. as for the interior, love JudyG's design w/the wood entry. removing that wall and opening up the staircase w/that stair style would be perfect for the look you want. taking down that wall would look something like this: but you could choose the style of staircase you like

Whatever it is called, it looks fabulous! Built in 1910, if it's in good shape (which it appears to be), you have a gem on your hands! I'd tread carefully in whatever you do, and plan any work with classicism in mind. I wouldn't go modern either in renovating rooms or in decor. No knocking down walls to make the interior "open concept" or painting everything gray. No laminate floors. Keep original details as much as possible. Think long and hard before you decide to paint any of that old woodwork. Plan. Plan. Plan. Use quality materials and hire only competent and vetted professionals. Get ideas from "Old House Online" or "Retro Renovators" or "This Old House." Stay away from mass-market junk at the big box stores; use quality branded reproductions (Historic Housefitters, Rejuvenation). Restore and re-use as much as possible. Go to estate sales and antique stores. Live in the house for a while before you do anything. Did I mention planning??? Good luck with your projects!
