Fireplace Surround with Space above for plasma tv
Comments (4)If you buy a plasma that has a remote media center (I know that Pioneer's do) then it could save you lots of $$ in cables depending where you mount your equipment in relation to the plasma display. My Pioneer has a seperate control box and only runs two wires to the actual display. The TV came with 10' of cable to this box which was plenty of cord for me. If you start buying longer HDMI, DVI, or component cords it gets expensive. good luck...See MoreTV above fireplace--how do you run cables for cable box/DVD
Comments (5)Well, you point the remote at the device you wish to control, however, human nature always makes you want to point it at the television. If the cable box and television are roughly in the same area, the cable box will hopefully "see" the remote control's IR (infrared) signal. If they are too far away, or if the A/V components are in a cabinet, you can purchase an "IR repeater". The repeater consists of a IR receiver which you discreetly place near the television. It then sends the IR signal to small IR emitters that you place near your A/V components. They come in both wired and wireless versions between the receiver and emitters. You may need some help from somebody that can look at the outputs available on your A/V components: Cable Box, DVD player, etc, and the input options of the television to determine what types of connection/cables you will need between the two. You may also want to add some additional cables for "future components." Additionally, Ethernet wiring (for an internet connection) should be run to the television and also another to where your A/V components are located. If you're installing a home theater sound system, the wiring for that needs to be figured out as well. The single HDMI cable reference I made earlier refers to connecting all you A/V components to the receiver for the sound system, and using it to control which source is displayed on the television. Many people end up preferring to send the signals to both the receiver and the television. That way, if you are "just watching TV" you can use just the TV. If you are watching a movie on DVD and want the full surround sound, then you turn on the receiver as well. By the way, the cables/wiring used in-wall to the television (and speakers wiring if done in-wall) need to be in-wall rated. That refers to the type of insulation used in the cable for safety purposes....See MoreHow do I stage this shelf above the tv?
Comments (12)I would hang the 3 framed pieces on the wall (or perhaps just 2 of the 3)...you need some variation in height and just lining things up won't do it. In fact, with that last arrangement, I'd probably also hang the R where it is, up a few inches on the wall. Maybe make some paper cutouts the same size as the R and the frames and try taping them to the wall above the shelf to find a pleasing arrangement. Getting some of them off the shelf will give your other pretty items some breathing room...See MoreAny ideas what to do with empty space above window ??
Comments (7)A sconce over the window - brass to match the hardware. Possibly black and brass together. I am not sure if it would be too heavy with the black hood but it’s something to consider. And see if you can find a sconce that compliments the style of your other lighting fixtures. Most pictures show multiple sconces but here’s an example of a single one over a sink, like you would have. If you didn't do a light, I would leave it as is. After the shelves are up, see how you feel about the space and if it needs anything. (Use some black items on the shelves to help balance the hood.) I also think a roman shade in the window would look great....See MoreUser
