Comments (2)I love the way it looks lit up from across the lawn of the Jardin d'Acclimatation. The Bois de Boulogne is one of my favorite places in Paris and I am having a difficult time picturing it now, but the French have always been very good at integrating the modern with traditional spaces. Not everyone likes it, but the juxtapositions usually end up working and often become iconic. The Eiffel tower is a case in point....See MoreXpost fr Decor - Tour of new Usonian at Florida S College
Comments (10)Thanks for posting this. I love FLW and his Usonian houses! By any chance did this one have the dropped rangetop in the kitchen, completely lined in stainless? I was so impressed with that, I really wished I could duplicate that in our home. Even my DH, who isn't as much a FLW fan as I am, thought that was a terrific idea. Such an interesting precursor to Mid-Century Modern. I think my whole (amateur) interest in architecture and interior design comes from a tour of the Robie House when I was a kid. I looked up at the indirect cove lighting using early fluorescent tube lights and thought, "Wow, that is AMAZING!" What a difference from the "one single fixture in the middle of the ceiling" that all our apartments had, back in the '50's and '60's. The Robie House is a multi-level urban home. There are no window coverings, because none are needed. The window glass is slightly angled, and there are built-in brick "awnings" integrated into the design. Nobody can see in, even at night! I really love how he used woodgrain as part of the overall design. A brilliant, brilliant man. If you ever visit Chicago, there are several FLW tours, including the Oak Park area where many of his designs remain....See MoreFrank Lloyd Wright house for sale
Comments (19)The low ceilings in many of the rooms really bother me, as does the wall to ceiling wood paneling, and it is in large part because I really dislike that yellow color wood, which is very pervasive. The wooden lounge chairs look like they belong in Pee Wee's Playhouse. The pool is not a practical shape. The house looks okay from the outside (except for the pool), but the interior is terrible, and that's were people live. He's done much better houses, although in generally I never like his color choices. I much prefer Michael Graves for color schemes....See MoreWaiting to hear from colleges?
Comments (21)we told our kids(2 of them) to apply to schools with a lot of majors so if they changed it, at least the school had so many that it should be able to accommodate them. another thing we did was ask them what they didn't want to do. it really helped them to narrow down what they did want to do. i know it sounds crazy but it worked. what junior in HS, really knows what they want to do for the rest of their lives?? we also asked: do u want a small/medium/big school? country/suburb/city school? far away/not too far/ close....anything to narrow it down., its so overwhelming and stressful, they need all the help u can give. absolutely, so much value in education...in today's world, you have to a minimum of BA degree. most want master's or more...its crazy. i am seeing some of my kids friends/classmates with no direction and they are just floundering,, so sad. if u are not the "college" type, go learn a trade but do something!!! best of luck to your daughter. these are trying times but she seems to have her head on straight, so the first hurdle is over. it all works out for the best in the end, its just getting there that's difficult :)...See Morel pinkmountain
