Paint Design Dilemma

Bathroom paint color dilemma with blue/green floor tile.

I'm trying to do a mini-remodel on a hall bathroom. I will be replacing vanity and mirror with attached pics and need opinions on a good wall paint to go with the less than appealing blue/green floor tiles. The tile color is hard to see in pic, so I matched it to Benjamin Moore paint strip below.

Thanks for ideas!

have you considered recoloring your grout? I can't tell if it's white or cream, but if you redid the grout in a darker gray (and they even have dark gray/greens) it wouldn't be so much of a contrast. Grout Renew is available and works well from what I've read.

I like the sage green colors in this pic. they work w/the marble and your floors.

At least the slate-like tiles have a rough edge, more authentic? Would the vanity top make the tile look less, by comparison? Do you like transitional / informal...

No, the tiles are not rustic/rough edged or authenticate. They are mass produced, Home Depot-ish low grade in my opinion. We prefer traditional/transitional style...whites, grays, etc.

Did you have paint color thoughts?

The tile is vinyl...she can't paint the "grout". To me wall color reads a little too much on the blue side, it needs more of a yellow undertone to go with your tub & vanity top. I think the clean white can work for trim and vanity, but only if you bring in more of the creamy/tan colors. I'd just stick with a fairly monochromatic theme-no prints because then you're really stuck with a 'theme'. You can bring in a print with wall art. I'd go more with texture than print, however. In our main bath reno, we have the same tub configuration. We put in white/gray marble tiles with a light grout. The tiles have a touch of tan in them also. I went with a blue wall color-reminiscent of beach glass, and all white trim. We put up beadboard on the ceiling where there used to be a flurescent light tube box built in. I used brush silver accessories and bright white towels. For the shower curtain I chose a shimmery blue one from Ikea. I don't have a 'theme' other than ahhhhh=it's just very calming to walk in there. I do have a stone Buddha and a couple of small shadow boxes of Asian coins. In any case, I'd definitely get a different shower curtain-that one just does not work with your floor.

I would try for the lightest shade of blue. I hope you will be putting a glass door rather than a curtain so that you will be able to appreciate that tile. Side story: we just completed a master bath remodel and needed gray paint. All the popular ones from Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore clashed. We wound up taking a tile to Home Depot and it was scanned. They don’t really recommend this as a read on tile that has other colors through it as well as a hard surface, but we had nothing to lose. It worked!

Is it obligatory to mention Sea Salt? ;) Depends a lot on what you mean by your color names -- "sage" can vary from a pale apple-ish green to a very gray green. Similarly, light blues are all over the spectrum. I think you're going to need to go to a paint shop and bring home a bunch of chips, and narrow the field a bit by what goes with the color tones of your stone and tile. Then get samples of the finalists and paint them onto poster board and see which you love.

I like the open vanity so that you can see the floor beneath it. It makes the room feel bigger than it is. I would just lighten it up with white paint and a new white countertop. I’d also hang pretty curtains, possibly cafe curtains, so that you have privacy but still have light coming in. I’d hang canvas art above the toilet with an image you love to look at to give the room some of your personality. I’d paint the walls white and use white curtains to bounce the maximum amount of light around the room.

To talk tile once more - yes, I bought that type at HDepot, but I meant it's not the cheapest tile at least. :)

You might have something with muted, grey-green paint... but less green.

Clark says MINDFUL GRAY "balances out other warm colors in a space; brown-tone flooring. Mindful Gray is a smart tool to counter those tones.” The designer recommends balancing it with both sides of the warm-cool spectrum for the best look.

Maybe this houzz quote suggests a gray not too cool, or too warm: "select a trim color - if painting walls a cool color (greens, blues, purples or grays), find a white that reads cooler. Put swatches of white paints next to one another and see how they compare; some will appear more warm or beige-like, and others very light gray with hints of green, blue or purple."

That's a tough call. If you try to blend with the floor then won't that be at odds with the vanity top?

Get a rug for in front of the vantiy and don't worry about the floor color. Match the vanity wood to the walls (white).

Add a framed print to the wall to draw attention from the floors.
