Angel Gardens sells Week's roses. I've seen a few on the premises. They are not in the main rose area, though.

They're a bit pricey, but Heirloom Roses grows their roses themselves - they are all own root. So, if your main goal is to avoid RRD, they're a good bet (they have 20% off sales fairly regularly, and if you buy 2 the shipping is free, which makes a big difference).

Re Regan's, I've been there a few times, and based on wandering around the nursery & looking at their huge selection of potted stock they get roses from all over - they don't necessarily grow them themselves (additionally, many of the plants are grafted, even plants that are available elsewhere as own root).

P.S. I'm not trying to say anything bad about Regan's - it's a nice place, & I've certainly never seen anything that looked like RRD there.

Can you order from Linda at Longagoroses, I highly recommend her and Rose's Unlimited!

Alana, I forgot about Long Ago Roses too! Looks like she's got quite a mix of antiques and some newer offerings.

I love Chamblees. I live nearby, and have talked with Mark Chamblee at length about this problem. Theirs are own root, and are safe from RRD. Buy from there with confidence. Only problem is, Mark wants to retire, the nursery is for sale so if the property sells - all stock will go and Chamblees will be no more. Makes me so sad.

I buy mostly from ARE because I trust them and their roses are larger than most, which works for me because I plant them straight into the ground. That used to work fine even with small bands, but with greater heat and continued drought the smaller roses just refuse to grow.

There are several new Weeks roses like Celestial Night, Frida Kahlo, Arctic Blue that I would like to have but afraid to order them. Thoughts?

Same here Alameda - Celestial Night for me. If Weeks has growing fields somewhere other than Wasco, there might be a source that's safe(r), but I don't know enough about the industry.

Your mileage may vary, but if you're going to order from Weeks at this time, I am glad you don't live anywhere in my neighborhood.

Jeri, that's what I thought. This year, I am going to be very cautious about where, or even IF, I order any roses. Really want Dame Judi Dench from David Austin. Do you think the Austins are safe to order? Would you say that just not ordering ANY Weeks roses from ANY vendor would be OK? Or would you worry about ordering any other roses from, for instance, Regans? I am going to be very cautious about what I get, and hate to ask advice about any nurseries that would be in any way disparaging of them......but for the protection of my garden, I need to know.

I had to laugh, but I don't blame you one bit, Jeri! I won't be ordering any of Weeks' new introductions, or anything else with their tag. I'll admit I'm hoping their mother plants aren't near those fields, and some clean budwood got sent out so one day those roses would be safely available. I'm doubtful there will be 2020 new introductions from Weeks, and I just hope they don't take any other providers down with them.

I'll probably pass on picking up any Kordes (or anything, really) from Lowes/Home Depot from here on out. We were just starting to get good options when Weeks had to go pull this. It's enough to make a gardener reach for a torch in addition to their pitchfork!

If you're in the business of selling roses, WHY do you sabotage your market?! Do you not want to be in business in 3 years?!

Hmmm... I wonder how valuable the land Weeks' fields are located on is worth, and who'll get proceeds from the (probable) sale.

That land out thataway is still growing things like cotton. Some wine grapes. But I think all of it could be converted to industrial use within a few years.

As for Austin --- I think I recall that their plants are produced by various contract growers. Is that correct?

It looks like there are some Weeks introductions among Austin's offerings ... 'Fourth of July' and 'Scentimental' . . . but that budwood probably goes back to a time prior to the current debacle. There are several OGRs, too, and some Ramblers . . .

But no NEW Weeks introductions. So, that might be a safe source.

I guess I'd ask them, though -- press a little, and see what I could find out, before ordering.

They may not have what you're looking for, but check A Reverence for Roses (ARVR), who are also in Florida. Many of us have placed orders with them and have been delighted with the plants we've received -- very big healthy plants, really huge for "bands," and very carefully packaged. My four arrived in great condition, from Fla to Calif; and excellent friendly communications. Shipping was very reasonable. There are so many wonderful OTHER (non-Weeks, etc) roses out there to fall in love with . . . but even if I fell in love with one of these "iffy" Weeks roses, I can't imagine ordering anything from Weeks et al now, or anything that came from an "iffy" source.
