Best plant labels to almost bury?

I want to do some rearranging of the prime hosta bed next spring. I thought of doing it now, but it’s a lot of reshuffling and I hate to hack things up when they are looking so nice right now. Biggest issue is some “minis” are not mini at all, and some smalls are more like minis. So they need to swap places. While I am at it I will divide the exuberant ones.

I don’t like or use visible plant labels. I have ordered various kinds, and end up not liking them. I normally remember the name of every thing, when I am looking at it (hostas, anyway; perhaps not my collection of 12 different deep burgundy lilies).

That doesn’t mean I will be able to ID them at pip stage, even with my vast number of photos. So I’d like to mark the ones to be moved with something that barely sticks up above the ground, only enough to pull it up and verify.

I was gifted with some vinyl mini blinds, but I don’t know how those hold up. I was told by someone that they will crack and shatter during the winter.

Thanks for your suggestions.
