Yellow fungus on my peace lily
Comments (6)The mushrooms come from the potting soil. They are somewhat ubiquitous to peat based media. MiracleGro is primarily composed of rather finely processed peat moss, just exactly what this mushroom likes. I'd like to ask you about your watering habits. When it's time to water, do you really drench the whole soil volume? The reason I ask is because peat heavy mixes can become hydrophobic, developing dry pockets that are very difficult to re-wet. In my opinion, that makes MiracleGro a challenge to work with. Spaths are sensitive. They like to have moisture at the roots, but will develop root/crown rot very quickly if overly saturated. A porous, fast draining potting medium allows us to water frequently and freely with very little fear of root rot. Since this fungus feeds on the organic content (peat), it (the peat) will slowly decompose into smaller and smaller particles. Before too long, the roots won't be able access oxygen at all. You should know that those little mushrooms are merely the temporary fruiting bodies of the real fungus....a network of threadlike hyphae and mycellium that grow and feed in the potting medium 24/7. Removing the mushrooms means nothing in the life of the fungus.....much like picking a flower doesn't hurt a plant. That's what I mean about the long run....See MoreCalla Lily plants yellowing leaves and droopy
Comments (3)Mona, If the leaves appear healthy it's likely that the inflorescence (flower) has matured and is dying back. Can you see seeds inside the spathe (petal)? With many callas an older spathe will turn green on the outside (it is a modified leaf after all). By removing the spent flowers you'll be allowing the plant to devote more energy to leaf and corm growth. A picture would be helpful....See MoreSpots on peace lily leaves - help!
Comments (2)It looks like something caustic got spritzed on the leaves, or drops of plain or fertilized water while sunlight was shining directly on the leaves. The pic is kind of blurry, it could be some kind of bug/larvae that eats the top or bottom surface of the leaf, but the pattern doesn't look as likely for that, IMVHO....See MorePeace lily getting browner by the day and leaves curling
Comments (58)Tropicbreezent- I've attempted at making a humidity tent out of cling wrap and some bendable wire, however I don't think it's doing much as the hydrometer next to it reads 34-40% (during the day, at night its 50-68%). I think this is because during the day we have the air con switch on whereas at night we switch it off. I've watered my PL once again today (I'm planning to do it every day till it settles). When I water, most of it gets drained out, so I'm thinking this watering schedule should be okay...hopefully no root rot. I've also covered the top of the pot with cling wrap (yeah I think I might ave gone a little overboard with it haha). My reasoning for doing this is because I noticed/read that the soil drys from top to bottom and with a coarse mix (5:1:1) this usually means the bark at the top drys out much faster than the mix around the roots. This means the dry bark would make it difficult to transfer oxygen to the roots (my understanding ??)....so by placing the plastic on top of the mix I'm hoping to retain the moisture this way till the next watering....See MoreRA Santos
