Is too much brown a bad or good thing? Need opinions
Comments (23)I KNOW I had updated pictures of our Cowboy Chic den but can't for the life of me find them. The 24x26 room isn't a brown brown, more of a orangy brown. Walls and sectional pretty much the same color. The carpet is an antelope print (that's what it's called but it's really an axis deer print, same as the skin on the coffee table)with brown in it. My punches of color are the pillows on the sectional. They're all the same style pillow in brick red, sage green, brownish green, orange, dark brown and gold. Even the tile is close in color and dark brown wood coffee table and end tables. This is the only picture I can find...oh, AND the ceiling in this large room is wood too. I think it's a personal preference whether or not you think it's too much of the same color. We've got a 10 foot long white Austin Chopped stone fireplace (goes all the way to the ceiling) that breaks up the color and plenty of other accessories on the walls (plus 10 windows). Monotone-ish den Vaulted ceiling Couch. We've had THREE couches in this den in 9 years :o The first leather sectional broke (handle) and was replaced under an extended warranty. The second leather set, I never liked. It was uncomfortable and too formal looking for our room. The third time was the charm and it's NOT leather. It's our favorite by far! We have two grandchildren that are here as often as they can talk their momma into letting them come over LOL At least 3 days a week. Even tho food and drink isn't allowed in there and shoes are supposed to come off at the door, stuff happens. Hands don't get wiped or they'll sneak a leaky sippy cup in there while I'm not looking. This is some kind of microfiber that at first glance and especially at a distance, looks like leather. A wipe with a damp microfiber cloth is all it takes to clean it. It's definitely a miracle fabric :) And the baby on the couch...he's the best accessory :)...See MoreIs too much of a good thing just *too* much? (Rug Question)

Comments (11)I would run it up to the bottom of the cabinets. It does make me think about the window tile tho. Slate doesn't normally have trim tiles. You have the area where the tile turns into the window and the bullnosed end tiles and the funny place where the wall cabinet doesn't end at the exactly correct place to line up the tile. I wonder if you could get some larger format tile of one of the colors - like 12" tiles of the green or coppery color. You could take them to a fabricator and get bullnoses cut on an edge to have an "end" for the wall, the small about of exposed top near the windows and a turned corner for the window...See MoreNo such thing as too much rain? Riiiight!
Comments (16)Oh, I definitely agree that we can have too much rain. We had 12" in just May 6-7 alone (a 24 hour period) and we're easily 10 inches over normal for the year. Our May was the wettest ever in recorded history, and the same for May through mid-June for a 6-week period. Our basement has flooded and sump pump run constantly since then, making a creek down the curb in front of our house all the way down the block. The birds love the "bird bath" effect created by bumps in the pavement where water collects. Let's see - how can I count the garden effects? Roses that never ball are balling, roots in some plants are rotting out or cankering up from the soil, vegetable seeds rot before they germinate, mosquitos are truly gargantuan and unstoppable regardless of how much bug spray is used, and every shovel full digging sounds like an old cow pulling its foot out of the mud. Even the tulips set their bulb replacements OUT of the soil to avoid all the moisture - never seen them do that in 20 years of bulbs. All the farmers have large patches of ground that are still unplanted in July because the fields are under water, and usually Nebraska is dry. Until this spring our water table was way down from drought two years ago. Interesting note about the clematis. For what it's worth, even in a normal garden year our clematis is quite happy without needing the garden stone, as long as the roots stay underground. Our loamy clay holds enough moisture and cool even in hot summer to keep them happy, so I doubt we'd need the clematis stone. It sounds like a terrific idea for hot and dry climates, though, to provide that artificial "shade" for the roots to keep them cool. Cynthia...See MoreB L
