Does first year climbing rose need to be trained?

I got a potted grafted Eden climbing rose this spring. The rootstock and the canes look pretty thick. After the couple of blooms that it came with it basically went into dormant for 1.5 months. I then noticed that the leaf buds at the end of the main canes all got brown so I lightly cut the tips by an inch. I know I am not supposed to cut the main canes but figured the browned tips won’t grow anyway.

Since then some new shoots came up from the existing canes, mostly near the end of the main canes so I will treat them as main canes, but there are a couple of literals as well. The “main” canes are about 3-4 feet long now.

I looked up a number of videos on how to train climbing roses but it’s not clear if I should start training it horizontally on a trellis now. Would training now promote more laterals for a better blooming season next year? Or should I let it grow freely until next year’s pruning?

Thanks!

I added the bud that came with the plant and the flowers.
