Question about W10
Comments (21)I do not believe as some sceptics do, that MS are bad guys, the same folks who have been developing OS's for our PC's for years. they came up with a great idea for W10 making it very user friendly and offering it free (and 10 yrs. of support) so that millions of users can be on the same OS, and receiving the same important security updates, to keep the real bad guys out of our PC's. As stated before you can set your updates as you choose to receive them and you can also turn Cortana off if you choose, same as always I am in control of my PC and always have been. All 4 of my PC's are HP's and I love them all, also HP has been great to me on any issues I have had which were only a few. My one PC was making a strange noise from new so I contacted HP, and they immediately sent me a pre paid box to send it to them, they put a new HD in it, put all my things back in it, and returned it to me in 2/3 days. Also I spoke to one of the big shots by phone, and we had such a nice chat, he even gave me his ext. # incase I wanted to speak to him on anything. He was thrilled that I had several PC's and all HP's he even extended my new warranty for another year, just incase, but it was not needed....See MoreSmartphone to tablet question
Comments (14)Don't have Apple and won't have them so only android for me. My elderly aunts in there 80's only have computers and can only learn 1 thing so Facebook works best for them. They don't have cell phones. My Mom's young grand kids can do everything. Used Facebook for years now and find it the easiest to communicate with friends plus have found some old high school chums by way of facebook. I was able to Find distant relatives on my Dad's side by way of facebook to let them know of my Mom's passing. Find it a really wonderful tool when I had to do live feeds for every one in the family at once. Can you do that with Skype? I have only ever Skyped one at a time so never looked into it since facebook had the capability to broadcast live to every one and the elderly don't have skype. Family that couldn't attend my Mom's funeral got to see everyone sing her favorite song at the grave site while it was live. I got so many thank you's for doing that so was worth it. I guess it all depends on how you like to do things online as to what you use. Mary...See MoreAirplay, GPS, and other issues
Comments (19)mtvhike, Google Maps has real-time traffic info and offers routing alternatives accordingly. The updates seem like they come every minute or two, because you can see the little info bubbles on alternate routes shown on the map changing from maybe first "8 minutes longer", then maybe "10 minutes longer", etc. Same happens when on a delayed segment and the traffic flow changes. In my two year old VW, the USB connected Android phone becomes integral with the infotainment system. Navigation by voice command entry is possible and works well, same with searches (the Google equivalent of Siri) for points of interest to choose from or navigate to or to call. I've had the same experiences using my phone in rental cars that were Hyundais, Hondas, and once a VW of a different model than I own. To try, I just put the Google Map app on Wifi only, downloaded a map of my area, put the phone on airplane mode with Wifi off (no signal of any kind), and put in a destination I knew to be a hike off the road. It found my present location and came up immediately with directions and a route. Whether or not the last bit would have been on a marked trail, I don't know, but the phone would have given me step by step maneuvers and tracked my location. To a trail-head, no problem. I know from prior experiences you can always enter destinations by longitude and latitude, for destinations outside of built up areas. Works fine. So yes, these are my experiences. If you're both using iPhones with CarPlay, then that's the difference. Or Waze instead of Google Maps. Or, it's something else. I regularly take long drives so I bought what I consider to be a burner phone - a cheap Tracfone Samsung that was $60 - to use in the VW to avoid having my good phone on such extended charges and too many on and off cycles. It works flawlessly. The suggestion came from the salesman who sold me the car - he talked me out of buying the model with built in GPS that was only available on an upgraded feature line and was about $4K more. He said "buy a cheap phone and a cheap plan and spend the remaining money on something else." And so I happily did. Having a phone with a cord plugged in is a bit less tidy than having a built in unit (as I have in two other cars and in the other cars I've owned for the last 15 years) but it functions well....See MoreAre others still having issues with GW using an iPhone?
Comments (25)I have all the same iphone problems as listed. On my macbook, which I use most often for this site, if I try to copy text (like to quote someone) and paste it into a new reply, I get an error message. That is in firefox, but if I go to chrome it will work. In firefox, if i type a comment, I cannot get any paragraphs using the return key; if I try to edit or sometimes if I try to add photos, the whole comment will disappear. VERY frustrating. I cannot bold or underline text in firefox, so have to remember to switch to chrome (which I really dislike using). The wonkiness of predictive text on my iphone is the worst, because if you are used to using it, it's so automatic that I don't notice I'm using it. Then when I proofread my text before posting, it's all mumbo jumbo....See MoreDLM2000-GW
