Twilight Zone is disappointing me

I planted three Twilight Zones in my raised, crescent shaped bed this spring. I thought the deep purple color would look great against my yellow house and sunny knockouts in the same bed. So far the Rose has not been purple, more of a maroon. And it crisps up within hours of blooming. I do have a tough sight, a western exposure that just bakes and it doesnt appear that TZ can handle it.

Should I give TZ more time? Or should I go ahead and replace with something else once the weather cools a bit?

My Twilight Zone has taken off

Its grown, its producing tons of blooms , but mine is more of a smoky dark purple color not exactly what I was hoping for .

Where it is planted it doesn't really get too crispy. It will go for a few days before they do but yours may be just in a really hotter location than mine. You may want to move it to some place it gets more afternoon shade

Do you see my pitiful Savannah in the background would like two funky blooms on it ? Big healthy bush, not so many blooms

I grew Ebb Tide also thinking it might actually be purple. It wasn't. More of a magenta pink. People in a more mild climate (PNW for instance) say it's purple for them. It also is a question of perception. What I call purple and what someone else calls purple can vary. The picture you show northtexas, is the same shade my Ebb Tide was. Not my definition of purple (yes, I know it's a different rose, but it's still about the same as ET). Diane's picture is closer to purple, but still it's in the deep magenta pink range to my eye. Purple in the crayola lineup is a combination of red and blue. Since roses have no blue in their heritage, it's not likely to come from breeding with another rose. Maybe with another blue flowered plant if they can breed two different species. Just my thoughts on the subject......Maryl

Lynn, Ebb Tide and Twilight Zone start out as very deep purple, about the same color, in the spring. As it heats up, Ebb Tide starts fading to some really unattractive pale tones, some almost dirty white. Twilight Zone doesn't seem to fade at all. In the heat, they are a little lighter and more magenta to start with. In the fall, they both return to dark purple. For me, Ebb Tide blooms more than Twilight Zone, but my ETs are mature roses. I've been a little disappointed in the rebloom of TZ but it' still immature. The scent of ET is very lovely and pronounced, and while TZ has a nice scent, it's a much milder, less sweet smell. TZ has the upright growth of a grandiflora, while ET is more spreading as a floribunda. So, for me, each rose has its strong points. Here's a photo of TZ in June, I believe. Diane

The stove has now TOTALLY fixed itself! The power flashed off last night for about 30 seconds, so I went to check it....sure enough, the little screen was blank, just like it is supposed to be, and everything came on. i guess I will have to buy the part to have on hand, just in case.

I surprisingly have milkweed growing in my too shady front garden. Straggly and scrawny, but still in bloom. And I have some volunteers as well. In the early spring I had hummingbird moths feeding on nectar plants for the hummingbirds. (I was wondering why baby hummingbirds were feeding at dusk.) I have such a soft spot for swallowtails and mourning cloaks although monarchs are the media stars. I have no room in my postage-stamp size lot, nor enough sun, but at one time I was yearning for a native grapevine that has glorious fall color. The photos were swoon inducing. Then I came back to reality. . Anneliese, I noticed the same with bees, wasps, and skippers. No pesticides used at all, but I don't know what the neighbors do.

Some people do get a real purple out of Twilight Zone, but I never do. I also agree the blooms are fleeting.

This is the most purple I get out of Twilight Zone. (I like the color, it’s just not purple I’d hoped for).

The closest to purple I’ve had from Ebb TIde:

Heirloom, I’ve seen lilacs of this exact shade

Melody Parfumee, a nice shade of violet:

Finally , Lavender Crush, now that’s a princely PURPLE. I don’t know that you could call it anything else. I do wish they had named it something like Grape Crush to recognize it’s purplebility (new word, lol).

Had you not noted your Savannah as a rose, I would have just passed over it as a holly or other foundation evergreen. It is indeed rudely healthy yet amazingly stingy , and will require a heavy heave ho!

Seriously, Savannah must go. She takes up a ton of space.

I have bothe Twilight Zone and Ebb Tide

I go back and forth on whi h one is my favorite. In all fairness, ET is in a perfect location .

But that Lavender Crush is just the most incredible, actual purple. Grape Crush would have been a better name.
