Thanks everyone for your kind words of encouragement! I will try and post some more photos, including one of the side bookcase and shelf as soon as I get new camera batteries. Hi Aliris19-you were right, the grill is a plinth fan heater! We kept it as I sort of like the industrial vibe it gives off. It was originally dark brown but instead of replacing it we sprayed it's grill with chrome heat-resistant radiator spray to save money as it worked perfectly. That radiator spraypaint (which is about $10 a can) has done loads in our kitchen! Our ceiling spotlights (can lighting in the States?) were all brass coloured so we just resprayed them chrome whilst still in situ (we placed a card template around them) as we couldn't afford the expense of changing them. You would never know to look at them! Thanks Boxer-I'm glad you like the bowls on the shelf-they are my favourite too. They're by Emma Bridgewater-I'm not sure if she is known in the States or not? I agree with your DH. Yellow would be awesome given the other colors and the quality of light you have to work with. The heart pine floors are likely going to be key in deciding which yellow. Technically, a yellow wall color with heart pine floors will shake out to be a monochromatic color scheme. All that means is when you're looking for yellow paint, make sure it harmonizes, coordinates with the floors first - if it does, then move on to see how it plays with the other colors, like the Berry Red and Hamp. Gray, Dark Green. Ellen Kennon's Buttercream or Buttercup are two that could work.

I love FnB for the reasons you mention. Ive used used Farrow's Cream in the vestibule and LR and a dressing room in my old house. Its the rare color that looks exactly as it does on screen. I've used Ringwold in a MBR, and found it a bit too peachy at some times of day. In our new home, Ive used Lime WHite, Pointing, WHite Tie and SLipper Satin, and love them all. BUt I think you are going for something darker than those? I also like Charleston Gray and French Gray, which I used on some fixtures. I did not like Ball Green, as it it far more green that it looks. Hope that helps. I just noticed in this second post that you have cherry bottom cabs and painted uppers --- i like it!

I don't know Sherwin Williams paint colors so I cannot say how any one would match to F&B. F&B All White is their brightest, whitest white without undertones if I recall correctly. What I do know is that most paint lines have an equivalent -- the brightest white. I would look at those from SW and from BM and others. A lot of the way any white will look depends on location. The same white paint will look much different in Texas, where the light is very strong and New England where it may look more gray due to the light. Noon has the brightest daylight. I would suggest looking at paint samples then. Also in the a.m. and late afternoon. See which looks best to you at all times of the day.
