Help with window treatment for off centered window
Comments (6)I don't think the centered thing will be an issue at all. And, as for ease of cleaning, I can't imagine they'd ever need a deep cleaning in bedroom. In a dining room or kitchen maybe, but not a bedroom. If you like the drapes, I say take em' with you. Moving costs can get so out of control that it seems silly not to reuse the items you already own, if you like them. If you have a good vacuum with an extension on it for upholstery, just hit em with that once a month or so to remove any dust build-up. I have linen pottery barn drapes in my living room that pillow to the floor - i vacuum the ends where they get dusty once a week and in the pleats where dust hides I only vacuum every few months - but that's about it. No dry cleaning routinely or anything. How often did you clean them before?...See MoreHelp with window treatment for 16' long window
Comments (29)At this point we are just considering the options, but this is a current possibility, bring the wall in 2' on either side, we could just do it with 2x4's and then exteriorsiding that would be stuccoed to match the outside of the house. Build out the insideto match the drywall, cut off the portion of the sill outside where there will no longer be a window. Then build the interior area to accept probably 5 2' wide windows with 4 5" posts in between, and yes we would not use the colonial style molding, try to source something to match the 5" baseboard we currently have in place. It will be a big job and I can do a lot of it myself, however I think it would be worth it and then the window seat under would like so much nicer, thanks for the help, not sure when we will be able to do it as the windows will be at least $250 each for Simonton 5500's. In the meantime we are going to use the window tint to give us some privacy and still allow light and wait on tax time :), thanks for the help everyone. I will post when we move forward with the project....See MoreI need help with window treatments for a large picture window.
Comments (20)My house had the original 1980s drapes. I also never need to cover my picture window for privacy or to block light (I live in Seattle), so I just left them off. Comments (7)Looking at your setup from that second angle suggests you’d have proper clearance on the left but now I wonder about the right side The space on the right is limited by the protruding fireplace “trim” (the mini “hood” above the fireplace opening and the detail below the opening). To see what might work you could purchase a 96” or 104” drapery panel, (whatever appropriate length) hold it up at height rod would be, and see if it hangs ok. Does it look squished, left to right by the fireplace? Does it hang freely? A heavier fabric panel will take up more soace, especially if it’s lined. Maybe a cotton canvas but no lining, or a blackout panel would fit. To help you decide about adequate space, consider the function of the slider. Do you open it a lot? Is that outdoor space a spot you use all the time, or does the door stay primarily closed and youre not going theough that door much. The right panel could hang partially over the door handle (door seldom opened) or it could hang so it fuly clears the door handle (use door all the time). Alternatively, you could mount a shade over the arched window that is long enogh to cover the sliders when shade is let down. (Prob requires a custom made at this length). Whether a shade or drapery, the slider door handle and limited width and height of space will inform your decision as Im sure you already know. Either woud work, but neither are ”perfect”. But perfect is seldom needed. The pros have great advice; maybe they‘ll weigh in...See More- 5 years ago
