I like the idea but if you do two small rods, then hang the panels from the ceiling or at least close to the ceiling.

What a lovely and inviting room!

My preference would be one long rod. It’s just personal taste, of course, but I’ve never liked the look of two short ones. Especially with a window like yours — it’ll cut it into pieces, rather than one nice cohesive “framing” of the window.

I have a big picture window, too, and have a long rod with two panels on each side.

ETA: Am I reading it right? You mean like this?

I like the suggestion to hang panels from two decorative short rods mounted on each side at ceiling height. Another thought--To create a faux enlargement of the window so it looks like it spans the entire wall, you could mount a rod almost to the corner (leaving wall space equal to the right side) and hang a wide enough panel that covers a portion of the wall on the left side of the window, behind the floor lamp. It would look like you have one-way draw drapes stacked to the left on a wall-length window.

There is already a virtual "line" being drawn by the slight ceiling recess, and your window is not aligned with it. In order not to jumble the lines, I would install a ceiling track from the bumped out wall on the right in your photo all the way to the wall on the left. Then hang sheer linen curtains which you can then pull to stack against the wider wall to the left for added softness to the room when you don't need them to block glare or sun fade of your fabrics or floors. Here are views of the kind of track I think would work for you. Of course, yours won't need to curve.

It looks like a beautiful painting. If you don't need curtains for privacy or to shade against too much sunlight, leave as is with no curtains.

I wouldn't do the drapes, they'd interfere w/the floor lamps and would look squished on the other side.

what about Silhouettes or Pirouettes inset blinds? they come in diff colors, top down option. I had them once for my picture window.

Sheers or linen sheers will stack nicely and the lamp can be nudged forward just a bit for clearance. I believe you're looking for softness, not so much light control, so I think subtly mounted, soft drapery is the answer.

There just doesn't seem to be much room on the right, but a narrow strip of stationary ones there could connect with the wider panel that would draw back and forth. I like it.

No to short truncated rods. They look silly and a full length rod always looks better.

My house had the original 1980s drapes. I also never need to cover my picture window for privacy or to block light (I live in Seattle), so I just left them off. I love how open and bright it makes the room feel.
