@ regina - Took some pics last night of the seams. There are 2 on the sink run, 1 on the BS, and 1 on the bartop. As I was uploading the pics, I think I notcied another one of the bartop, but I'm really not sure! Thats how hard they are to see in person. But, regardless, this should give you a good idea of how they look. I think the busy pattern of the granite helps them blend in more. I know it's been a while and you've probably resolved the issue, but I wanted to tell you I really like your new plan. It has a wonderful clarity about it. It also isn't too symmetrical. The central corridor is strong and I think walking through the house, from one end to the other, could be quite beautiful. It would be nice if one end, or both ends, of that corridor was more of an "event". A dramatic window, or painting.... On the left side for example, with a little tweaking, if you swapped the dressing room with the bathroom, you could end the corridor with a floor to ceiling window, or glass block like you have in the front. This would make moving towards that end of the house inviting, and would bring light into the space. I do agree the kitchen island may be too big, and may end up completely dominating the space. Less can be more, and empty space can be more valuable that one completely filled. And since you have so much counter space, I'm wondering why the sink is on the island? Why put a messy sink in such a central position in the house? I see a lot of people building sinks into islands, and I don't really understand the appeal. Why not have an island that's just about the luxury of the surface, the stone. I think the elevation is also wonderful and I have no doubt you will enjoy this house. I agree with the vent hood and lighting changes. A glass pendant in green or aqua lighting could look good. As far as seating, I always liked the Tig Countertop seats from Crate & Barrel when I had them in my last home. They are contemporary and sleek. And far more comfortable than they looks. But they wouldn't go with the french look of your dining area. I assume you plan to change out those chairs as well? If you like coastal looks, sea grass or a light natural/driftwood color is a good option too. If you are looking for light and bright I think you would need to paint the island. That’s a LOT of knotty pine. Your white island looks great with the floors so I would paint the cabinets the same white. You’ll have to use a good primer sealer first so the knots don’t bleed through. Don’t put anything on top of the cabinets, it will just look dated and cluttered. Also replace the old white appliances, the backsplash and cabinet hardware with something more current. Luckily your cabinets are a classic panel design and the countertops are also classic. Everything else looks tired and dated. Replace the 2 different stool styles with 1 current style. I also find the grey strip of wall above the cabinets distracting, looks like a racing stripe. I’d paint the walls white so that the cabinets blend into the wall and there’s no attention drawn to that bit of wall. Your kitchen has good bones! Just needs a bit of freshening up!
