Why, Crate and Barrel, why? Or, how bad an idea is a wool/viscose rug?

why does my cat pee on my bed?
Comments (28)I haven't posted on any forum on GW for a long time, but this one really got to me. Not in a bad way... it just did. My cat has peed for forever...off and on. Let's see. Got him in 1995 (my roommate got his sibling). Pee'ed everywhere (beds, chairs, carpet). Moved out in 1996. Pee'ed everywhere (cats outside the window). 1997-2000. Lived in a place with no cats outside. No peeing anywhere but the box. 2000-2003. Another place with no cats. No peeing. 2003-2004- Moved to a place with cats outside. He started to pee again. Husband threatened to kill one of us! LOL. Actually not so funny. I cried almost everyday. 2004-Saw the vet, linked the history, and my cat is on prozac as of about 2 years ago. No problems since. My problem (not MY problem...my cats problem...LOL) was territoriality. Don't discount the drugs in certain situations. It's best to be open-minded. It worked for my cat. I was considering giving him away or euthanasia...didn't want to do either. This problem had seriously affected my home life, which is why I was thinking about serious solutions. I'm glad I still have my cat. I adopted him, so he became my responsibility, and I don't take that lightly. Talk to your vet. And good luck from someone who sympathizes....See MoreOkay, WHY do you hate/love a trend?
Comments (107)Didn't someone (Pal?) have a post a few years back about why we hated some trends, and that one reason revolved around what we grew up with? Because I honestly don't care for MCM - at least the stuff that I grew up with -- the starburst wood clock, formica countertops, the hanging chained light fixtures, the gold carpeting, specific colors such as harvest gold, avocado green, some tones of rust/orange, etc. Meanwhile, a friend of mine who is 12 years younger loves MCM. And, it's that I don't want to live with those things (and they don't fit into the style of my house) but I don't mind seeing them in other people's houses as long as those things "fit" the style and are well-done. Then, I can appreciate the style... but I still don't want to "live" in the house with the style. Also, now that I'm older and have traveled, I don't like things that just purchased to "pull the design together" - like when stagers are trying to neutralize a room with objects that pull the colors together but don't have any real "worth." Stuff that doesn't really have any meaning or purpose. I like to decorate with things that remind me of places that I've been or that are made by artists/craftsmen (doesn't have to be expensive) rather than mass-produced. When I was just out of college, I had more of those decorating pieces from Target, etc. because I hadn't traveled and lived enough (plus, no money) to have accumulated many items that had personal meaning, yet....See MoreDo You Ever Wonder Why This Is?
Comments (42)So many great responses here already~ very well said and very eloquent. . . and I'm right there with you! I realize in these tough financial times that shows like those on HGTV have to watch their budgets, but I REALLY miss the shows they used to have; The ones with great quality designers like Kitty Bartholomew, Joe Ruggiero, Lynnette Jennings, etc. These days, I agree, they seem to mainly push cheap, sterile, cookie-cutter Contemporary rooms . . . although I have to admit that 99% of the shows on HGTV are now reduced to the "wanna buy or sell a house" shows that I am so darn tired of! Although there are beautiful, well done Contemporary rooms (done by Candice Olson), I'd love to see some HGTV designers branch out and do rooms like the majority of us live in. Too bad they don't hire Eddie Ross to do an HGTV show. Lynn...See MorePottery barn Ava vs Crate&Barrel Alvarez
Comments (25)I noticed that the mineral blue Alvarez that kBob has is made of a different material - 73 % wool , 24% rayon and 3% nylon . The garden Alvarez that I was looking at is- 65% wool and 35% viscose . I have a photo attached of both samples with my leather colors . It does seem like the blue Alvarez material is more durable but I think the garden looks better with my samples . Can you tell I am reaching to salvage this rug ? Lol! Is rayon substantially better than viscose ?...See MoreKristin S
