My old Boxer having siezures - I don't know what to do
Comments (46)I have an 8 year old Boxer, Millie, that had her first seizure just over a year ago. It was long and violent and tortuous to watch lasting well over 3 minutes. I immediately took her to the vet and he started her on Phenobarbital and Valium. She had several more smaller ones until the levels were where they needed to be. In the year since she's had dozens, some worse than others, and we've added Potassium Bromide to the mix. She continues to have small focal seizures lasting a few seconds almost daily. She was hospitalized last month with Pancreatitis. While there she had one larger and one smaller seizure. Since she's come home she seems to be deteriorating. She sleeps most of the days away. She has difficulty walking, stumbles or falls when she stands still for more than a few seconds, bumps into things and has fallen down the stairs. She seems to be losing control or strength in her hind legs. Last night she fell asleep at my feet and then couldn't stand or walk for a couple of minutes when she woke. This morning, on the other hand, she came as close to running as she has in a while to go outside and potty and play for a moment. It was brief. She's eating well, looks and sounds a good as ever which makes it that much harder to wonder "How much is enough for her?" I guess that's what I'm looking for, advice on "enough". She is our absolute favorite person in the world and is loved beyond measure. As terrified as I am about her leaving us, I am more afraid that she's suffering as she is. I've never had to even consider this for a pet so I'm lost to the rationale of it. How do you know when they've had enough?...See MoreI've lived with the window color for a year; still don't like it!
Comments (64)Wow! I was gone yesterday, when last I saw this there were only 27 posts! I tried to read through all of them, but I'm not sure I caught everything. I tried photoshopping Cilantro's green idea and Holligator's dull gold and a black frame around the stained glass like trailrunner's. I picked the green & gold out of the stained glass; I'm not sure how'll they'll look on everyone's monitors, especially the gold. Sorry, but I only "painted" around the window on the gold. No matter which you decide to do, IMHO the stained glass needs to retain some sort of frame, either the current wood or black. I'm still partial to tzmaryg's idea of the bottom part of the window white and leaving the top part they way it is; that is also a bit of a compromise with your DH. But others have suggested a gel to tone down the redness of the mahogany. Any scraps of the mahogany around to experiment with? Or for the green, maybe the color of your dishes. Sorry, I'm not much help other than trying to give you a mock up and even that may be showing up a little too bright! I hope it helps some, though!...See MoreDon't know what I don't know. Comments (3)I have been a swimming pool contractor for 34 years. I am Jandy Pro Edge Dealer for about 20 years. As a Pro Edge Dealer, we can offer our clients an extended warranty on their products. Jandy equipment is not just automated systems. They have offered filters for close to 20 years now. My friend and colleague actually headed up the pump and filter division for Jandy and is is still involved with the company. I prefer their equipment as they provide great dealer support, which in turn supports my clients. I've been using salt water systems for 20 years, and quite honestly have never seen any corrosion issues at any of the pools we have built, renovated or service. Our new pools are equipped with a Jandy automated system, pump, filter, heater, Polaris cleaner and a salt water generator. Nicheless LED lighting also. Some pools we add a Del AOP system which uses ozone and UV for santizing. Testing and adjusting the water weekly, will keep things in check. Improperly balanced water will destroy anything it comes in contact with. It's paramount to maintain proper water chemistry. Hopefully the pool builder will guide you on the equipment needed. You may consider prepping for a heater as may want it down the road....See MoreSerious roof issues and ceiling issues, and I don't know what to do.
Comments (50)In reading through all the posts that have made, it seems that no one has actually viewed the problem. Its been all conjecture of what it might be. Have you or anyone poked their head into the attic to view the damage area with a good flash light? If the location of your attic access is near the chimney, one might be able to see the problem area by putting your upper body through the attic access and look around. If that is not sufficient, then one needs to go up into the attic and move to the problem area. This requires care to step only on the rafters and not put your foot through the ceiling and possibly getting hurt. Also, there should be attic insulation, and if one intends to wade around in that, proper foot and legging wear should be used. This problem is serious and must be addressed. Damage continues as long as this problem exists. In a prior post, a good illustration was shown. I'll add another one showing flashing around a chimney. Note that the lower edge of the flashing comes out on top of the shingles. The base flashing goes on first and then the counter-flashing collar is installed. There should be at least a 4 inch overlap with the collar flashing over the base flashing. A "saddle" is shown on this illustration. It is used to channel water away from a "pocket' region where water can collect and run under the shingles. Often, this is the the upper side of the chimney where it pierces the roof. (Saddles are custom fitted to the problem area and can have shapes differing to the one shown here.) I hope you find a knowledgeable tradesman....See Morebpath
