Dumpster diving?
Comments (29)Wow, Jokik, I wasn't aware that personal attacks were allowed on this forum. I'm sure you thought you were being so subtle with your Common Sense for Dummies comment. Aren't you clever! So what are the "more than adequate" precautions are you taking with this dumpter-diving wood furniture retrieval? If you are so well-informed, I guess you know that bedbug eggs take 2 weeks to hatch? I'm shocked that you are being so rude about something that's turning into a public health crisis in every major city, every college campus and many single family homes in the middle of nowhere. I feel sorry for your neighbors. If you were so nice and so smart, then you would give a little tutorial about the details about how "more than adequate"ly you clean your dumpster finds so that other people on this forum will learn how not to get bedbugs if they should choose to continue to dumpster dive. But I suspect you are not so nice and so smart. "Common Sense for Dummies" back at you!...See MoreDo you bike ride?
Comments (22)Good bike shops also sometimes have nice bikes that people have traded in when they upgrade. The staff goes over them to make sure everything works properly, and sell them for a very reduced price. So you might not get the exact color you want - you could always have it painted at an auto body shop (or bust out the spray paint) if it meant that much to you. Also, you can call the local police department and ask if they have a bike auction. Many jurisdictions auction off stolen bikes that were never reclaimed by their owners, with the money going to a police charity (like college scholarships for children of officers killed or disabled in the line of duty). A triathlete I know got a $1k+ racing bike for under $100 at a police auction... he was about the only one who knew what it was and snatched it up. All it needed was new tires from sitting in storage for months. I miss riding a bike, but my balance is shot. There are stabilizer wheels for adult bikes but I think they'd just look too goofy. My PT says adult trikes tend to be tippy....See MoreDo you use a percolator coffeemaker?
Comments (32)Egg in coffee? That brings me back 50 years. We had a friend that entertained a lot, she's still around but not in great health. She put out a "perfect" cup of coffee. One day I asked her secret and she said it was the egg shells she put in the coffee pot. She used a stove top percolator, she said it didn't matter what you use. She threw in the egg shells with the coffee grounds and percolated away until the color was right. She did it camping in a pot or kettle and it all turned out the same. She didn't strain the coffee, grounds settled on the bottom, I don't remember any sludge. And, she always had a pot of coffee on the stove that tasted like she just got through making it. I never did try it, DH and I always had it at work and I could always take it or leave it. I wised up when I started having extreme headaches on weekends when I was skipping the coffee, jeeze....See MoreMosaic Sphere Fountain
Comments (96)Here's the location, but right now it's covered in Zinnias!... it's a little nook by the stairs to my deck. I've always planted annuals there b/c I've wanted to do a pond for years and just never have. I have the basin, pump, and outlet ready, but am just hoping to get the mosaicing done by the end of summer/fall. I'll probably wait til next season to actually set it up as a fountain otherwise I'd end up having to take it right out again for the winter... besides the zinnias will bloom til frost and I just can't dig them out... they are so beautiful! If you look at my garden pictures... the picture of the white clematis is what's behind the zinnias which is now done blooming. In anticipation of this fountain I planted 2 new ornamental grasses, but they're so small right now you can barely see them behind the zinnias. Here is a link that might be useful: My garden...See Moreprintmaster
