I am so excited! I didn’t miss it!

Early July, I found this beautiful caterpillar on my white oak. By July 13, it had made its cocoon. I didn’t think it was likely I would see it as an adult, but I still checked on my mothball (thats what my husband named it), twice a day. I was starting to get a bit worried, because it has been taking so long. This morning I walked by with my dogs at around 10:30 and saw some movement. As soon as we were done with the walk, I went to check. There wasn’t just one moth, but two! What a treat. I have been here for 25 years and have never seen one in my yard. Here is to more caterpillars!

Congrats, congrats on your mating polyphemus moths!! Since the female is the one that stays put, your caterpillar would have been the female - so glad there was a male around to mate with her!

Mytime, I love the lacinated blooms too although I only had two last year (Show n Tell and Pinelands Princess). This year I ordered a red one called Northlake Pride. I have about 25 dahlias currently potted up and sitting outside in my portable greenhouse. I just checked my tubers and see that I have more that have sprouted and I will pot them as soon as I get some more potting soil. I can't wait to see them bloom! Viking, As I recall that Show N Tell was a very small cluster of tubers that I potted up in a six inch pot. At the time it only had one sprout on it so I wasn't sure if I should divide it or not so I planted it all together. It had at least 20 blooms on it at one time. Linda

That's great news. I am happy for you especially since your son is military. No matter how any of us feel about the war, we appreciate our military people. We spent many holidays alone. Because of the parents and step parents issue, I decided what ever day my children could be with us was "the" holiday. The Christmas my oldest granddaughter was four, they were stationed in Abeline. We lived in San Antonio and my son's father lived in Kingsvile and my DIL's mother lived in Robstown. The kids had their Christmas at home and then drove to SA. The next day we had our Christmas. The day after they drove to Robstown and had Christmans at my DIL's mother's house. They went to my ex's on Christmas morning and had Christmas. Soooooo,my granddaughter got up the day after Christmas expecting it all to happen again. She was a tad disappointed.

Fabulous color. I have two that are similar in my house -- EK Mustard Seed and C2 Radiate. They are happy, happy colors. Just right for that happy, happy baby! And good for you for figuring out that you can't necessarily pick colors by looking at other people's photos. It's a great place to start....but it just isn't that simple, as you well know.

Iris, so beautiful!!! I'm surounded by a bunch of old Oaks, but with no low branches. I've only seen these a couple times in person, but I would love to raise a few.
