Can we talk about your Master Bedroom furniture?
Comments (27)We bought a wood bedroom set approx 9 years ago and a wrought iron bed at the same time(and an extra antique dresser I picked up along the way). We did not like the look of using the matching bed with the matching wood furniture. The wrought iron bed also felt more "airy" in our room, which at the time, was not esp big. When we ended up with a crib and toddler bed both in it for a while when our kids were small, we were glad we had not gotten the larger sleigh bed after all as it was hard to find space to walk around our less bulky bed, lol. We just extended the bedroom in our current house and gave ourselves a much bigger closet. We are unpacking into it some more tonight (am at work now) so will be seeing if we can ditch one of the dressers from the set and give it to one son who now wants his own room away from his brother. The extra dresser we have is too girly for him with a pretty inlaid pattern in the front, so we would give him one of the matching parts of our set instead. I like having non matching stuff if they flow well, so have no problem breaking up our set. I am hoping to find either a pretty low hope type chest or a bench for the foot of our bed because we have a decent open space for one. If you have classic pieces, they work well with others. In our living room we have 2 dressers, non-matching that work as chests as well as a china cab which matches neither. Most of our furniture was bought or passed down over the years. The only set we really have is our bedroom one and our dining room set. I like how most of our furniture is unique from the others and has character. If I had a larger house, I'd continue to pick up interesting strays forever. I am attached to the ones I have though and will happily keep them for my lifetime, so will have to curb my habit. The problem is I walk into houses that are selling every day and have opportunities to pick up more pieces than most people have. If I see something intriguing and find out they are planning to sell it........See MorePlease help with bedroom with pine four postercanopy bed
Comments (10)nosoccermom, I noticed these common things in most of your inspiration pics: --Fabric hangings on the bed. All but 2 of the pics have fabric of some sort on the bed itself. --A mix of furniture. Mostly clean lines, but a mix of wood and metal or of different woods. Gives many of the rooms a slight eclectic feel. --Mostly lighter colors, with some darker colors in one or two spots--an accent wall, the flooring. --Some of the rooms have cool-looking statement lamps next to the bed. So I'd explore the idea of putting some curtains on the bed. Or a treatment like that in photo #5--the gray room. That's a simple hanging, pretty easy to make yourself and it's elegant. Then change out your nightstands. Maybe a small, round table to balance out all the rectangular lines of the bed. A bench at the foot of the bed. I'm hopeless at advising people about color. It could be all these rooms have lighter colors because those are the only pictures you can find with beds like yours. Maybe do a search for inspiration pics for bedrooms with colors you like, regardless of what type of bed is in the room. Lamps--get some larger-scale lamps that can stand up to the statement that your bed makes....See MoreWall color for antique, golden oak bedroom furniture?
Comments (18)We have Lexington dark oak victorian style bedroom furniture, so I definitely feel your pain trying to choose a complentary paint color. Our bedroom was painted a version of off white for quite a few years, took a back seat to other rooms mainly because I really couldn't find a paint color I liked that would look good with the dark oak. When I used the SW Blonde in my LR/DR, I painted a a bit in our MBR to try it with our furniture. Loved how worked with our furniture, so problem solved as to what color for our master. The Blonde seems to be a completely different color in our MBR than in our LR/DR, mainly due to different lighting. If you don't want to go with the gold tones, I would try a sample of the green as pictured in mclarke's post. That green color was one of the many colors we sampled for our LR/DR before going with SW Blonde. Please post a pic when you paint. Would love to see what you choose....See MoreOutdated Bedroom/Pine furniture
Comments (20)I don't think that it is the wood that the furniture is made from that gives an outdated look. I think it is the rounded, curvy ornate style that speaks so much of some past decade. In my estimation, decor that is devoid of ornate details is the most timeless. A basic piece can always be dressed with a different finishing, but that shape stays the same. You can reduce the overly ornate feel by removing the mirror over the dresser. You probably cannot remove the headboard, but it would also take away some of that feel. The rest of your room is nice. It is that curvy ornate shape that locks you into the last century, somewhere. It looks like it may have been, at one time ,graced with the colors of the southwest in a bogus 'navajo" pattern, or maybe a little later in the century. Other than a couple of minor changes such as some new lamps or so, I would suggest that you come to terms that it is what it is. Your room is nice and your bed coverings are very pretty. The walls, trim and the floor are all nice. You simply cannot erase the imprint of that past decade from the shape of the furniture. That is where it is the most evident, in the shape of the furniture. But, it is all nice....See Morepumpkinspice75
