Black and white bathroom
Comments (3)We are restoring a 100 yr old house, and due to budget reasons the 1950's to bathrooms had to stay. They will both be black and white. The upstairs bath has gray tile- we reglazed the tub, and I painted the walls white. I have black and white toile curtains, and sink skirt, and black and white pics of my kids when they were babies in there. I found really cute baskets and soap dispenser in homegoods in black and white damask. I would love to post a pic, but I have no idea how. Downstairs bath was hideous pink and blue 1950's tile with blue sink and toilet. I painted the wall tile white, replaced the sink and toilet in white, I put black and white vinyl stick on tiles on the floor and I have black and white damask wallpaper that will go on top. What look are you going for? Are you going for the black and white first? Or was it an idea after your heart was set on the uba tuba? I have no idea what uba tuba looks like- not familiar with granites (I used soapstone in my kitchen). I would go with what I wanted first. And then work around that....See MoreShades of Pink:Which of pink would look best in a small bathroom?
Comments (23)Lukkirish, I canoot upload any pictures, if I do, my computer will explode. I'm on strict orders not to uploand for this reason. However, when my daughter comes home from school today, I'll ask her to take a couple of pictures with her camera and upload them on her computer to this thread. How can I get the pictures posted directly in the thread as shown above, rather than a link? And thank you for offering to do this for me. I really appreciate it. Bronwynsmom: I do not want a trite look for this bathroom, although I am a lover of pink. When I hang dry all of my clothing it's pretty much pinks, lovely greens, and blacks with a blue something thrown in, plus of course denim. I appreciate the advice. Especially on the white trim. Someone up-thread told me to match the cabinetry, which is a fairly stark white, so that is a good thing. Is the best way to compare whites to go to the paint store and look at the sample chips under the flourescent lighting fixtures at that display? I do want a soft white... softer than the cabinets. What makes a white "soft" looking? That Ballard bedroom is gorgeous, Pink Fairy is a really lovely shade of pink as well. It is gorgeous with all of the beige/taupe trim and accent pieces. And again I'm seeing it a large, airy room. My bathroom is small and stuffed with things like sinks and cabinets. Is there a rule about what color does when you bring it into a smaller room and you are standing close to it? I would think that, to the eye, the color is intensified. Comments (26)Thank you everyone for all your kind words. We did it with lots of help from you forum members. LES: I wish we did not need the cabinet because it would give an airy look to room but my daughter is not a one item will do sort of gal and she really needs storage as much as possible. Your ideas sound so nice though. For those that asked the floor is made by daltile and is called octagon and Dot. The white octagon is matte and the black is glossy, comes on a 12 inch mesh square. The white paint is BM regal SATIN chantilly lace but I bought better paint for the black. BM Black in Aura Bath and spa paint MATTE. I was advised by funcolors to use the best paint and she recommended this one for a bathroom so that water will not show when it gets humid. Went on well, Just cannot touch it or rub it afterwards. My daughter is pregnant so for now there is just her and hubby and by the time the baby is touching it will be another 2 years and by then they might decide to repaint. Such a small surface that it would only take an hour to paint. One of my other posts will have the details....See MoreBathroom help! Intense black & white tile, cramped layout, oh my :(
Comments (25)Art that doesn't take itself too seriously. and embrace it for now. It's funky...as much as checkerboard allover makes me slightly dizzy, I see the bigger problem in the layout. I'd save and research meanwhile. Plants are always good. If you ask me. I can see one on the tub edge. Something.. simple in care. I do see something Alice-in-Wonderland-y in there. I don't mean a theme. i mean-the vibe. If I see a metaphor in a space-it helps me a lot to connect to it, with all its mistakes and shortcomings. So. Maybe what you need for now, while waiting and planning for the big remodel-is finding your own metaphor?...See MoreIdaClaire
