Kitchen Secrets/Hacks

Don't know about any of you, but sometimes when I am searching the the internet, I will look at the life hacks videos. Sometimes there's something, most times not.

Ran across this one for storing bananas ... I tend buy when they are cheap, and borderline over ripe, and make loaves of banana bread. Sometimes I don't get to them right away, and they go further south rather quickly.

STORING BANANAS

Put a strip of aluminum foil around the stem, they don't go south as quickly. Can get a couple extra days out of the bunch.

CLEANING YOU PRODUCE

I think perhaps lindac mentioned you should clean your store produce by soaking it in cold water and some vinegar for awhile, then rinse. Been doing this for awhile, with peace-of-mind success.

SIMPLE BLUEBERRY JAM

• 2 pints of blueberries (cleaned, see above)

• 1 Cup white sugar OR 2/3 Cup honey

• 2 Tbl lemon juice (I like lemon)

• pinch of cinnamon (opt)

Put in pot and bring to simmer for 30 minutes. A spoon pulled in a straight line across the top of the product should yield a straight line.

Bottle or place in a storage container and refrigerate.
