My email has been hacked!! Sorry

My email has been hacked! Don't open anything sent from me yesterday or this morning. I've changed my password and will run a virus scan tonight at home. SORRY! I know this isn't food related but everyone doesn't read conversations.

I did have leftover smoke turkey for lunch though. : )

Thanks for the heads up, David. I did get an e-mail with a link from you but I was suspicious and deleted it right away.

Hope you get it all worked out with no damage/loss to your system!

Yeah I got a couple of those from you but by now they are old news and I know to delete them.

And I had a left over cabbage roll from Brent's Deli for lunch.

Thank you, Aurora, great explanations. Lucky, very funny! Silvana, no, you did not get hacked and don't have to do anything. I got hacked because I did not follow my own advice. I got an email from an unfamiliar address on a topic I did not recognize with a link that was also unfamiliar. So, there were three clues. But I clicked away. That is all it takes, one click, for a hacker to be able to clone something that resembles a person's name and address. To get rid of a spam email, just send it to the spam folder on your email account, then empty the spam folder. You can change your password if you want. I put a more complete explanation on a new thread. However, Aurora explained it better than I could! It would be good if the Moderators would read this and remove the two posts with the bogus links on them. I will try to contact the Moderators to have those two posts by the hacker removed from the threads, however, I don't think that was what caused the hacking of my email. OH YES! I got hacked about 3 years ago and it was a dad blasted mess!!! I couldn't even get into my account because they changed my password. Talk about being Mad!!! I've used the same account since I started on the WWW and I was not going to start a new one. It'd take nearly a week for me to get my account back and then within a day, they be back and change my password again. They were using my id to buy items on Ebay. So, I did finally change my Ebay email address to one that I only use for Ebay and that stopped them. Believe me, I've got a password with many numbers and letters that I don't think they will be able to get. Good luck. You shouldn't have anymore probems if they deleted your account. Just make sure that they didn't buy stuff on Ebay and charge it to you. This was another one of those times that God brought everything together for me. I hadn't bought anything on Ebay for a while when this happened so I hadn't checked it out. But I do my bank account auditing online and I caught them withing 10 minutes of getting access to my account. So, I didn't loose anything. The bank refunded me $40 that they did get access to in those 10 minutes, but I normally wouldn't have checked it then but I had to pay a bill and wnated to make sure I had enought money and found the hackers. They would have cleaned me out of my $118 that I had in my account in a short time if I hadn't checked. Amazing how God takes care of us!!!

Sorry to hear about your trouble, Larry. I've received nothing fishy from you. I've had my email taken over a couple of times. My Facebook account, too. I was apparently stranded in London with the kids on a last-minute vacation. Yeah, that's something I'd do. Heh. We have Macs and have not had any viruses since making the switch several years ago. I'm a complete computer moron so it has to be pure luck that I've not yet caught one of the rare Mac viruses. I hear they're getting more common. Oh, I did have my debit card number stolen a couple of years back. The bank caught it and was very good about it. I guess I'd been buying up several hundred dollars in fancy underwear in Norway or something and they thought that might be a bit odd for me. Like old age, the internet is not for sissies, huh? Diane

There is a HUGE difference between someone gaining access to your email and your computer being compromised. You haven't provided any evidence that your computer is hacked. You have provided evidence to the contrary since you scanned your computer and didn't find anything. Also, if your computer has been hacked, the hacker probably isn't interested in using anything that is actually on your computer but is interested in using your computer to do other malicious things or monitoring your keystrokes to get passwords to financial accounts. Deleting files on your computer isn't going to prevent any of that (assuming your computer has been hacked). People keep many gigabytes of crap on their computers, hackers aren't going to rummage through all of those files in hopes of finding some valuable morsel. Unless you are a prominent person who is known to have classified documents or something like that on your computer, in which case you might be targeted for the data on your computer.

I got one too...I opened it on my ipod then deleted it. I usually inadvertently open the emails but never the links. Hope you get it squared away soon.

I had leftover pulled pork and coleslaw for lunch:)And buckeyes I made in honor of Jim Tressel. But that's another thread:)

I got a link trying to sell me cut rate prescription drugs that start with a V I A G R * (Gardenweb wouldn't let me spell it out, LOL) but I opened it on the computer here at work, not on mine at home, so it's all good.

Lunch was a box of frozen BirdsEye brussels sprouts, but I heated them up before I ate them. That's cooking, isn't it?

According to my virus scan all is cool. I hope it is with everyone that recieved the email too. Changed my password and tried to send an email to all my contacts(to warn them) but it wouldn't let me. Something about spam (lol) and changing settings to my account....blah, blah, blah. I'm so lost with some of this high tech stuff.

Thanks for heads up for those that did contact me and I'm sorry for all this carp. : )

David, one of my "Friends" on Facebook got hacked or spammed or something. The picture she posted for all of her friends to see is really quite pornographic. Be glad it was no worse than v-i-a-g-r-a. I get that spam n my email all the time. Never knew there were so many men with performance problems. Tee hee.

Pam, they apparently are also bald and not so well endowed, if my e-mail is any indication.

Not that I need the bargain stuff, since I've won the Microsoft lottery, the UK lottery, the Irish lottery and several people from Nigeria want to give me money from the goodness of their hearts. Heck, I'll be rolling in the dough. (Just to keep it food related, LOL)

Sorry that happened to you - happened to me, too. I would also recommend clearing both your browser cache and browser history, since you've already run a scan and changed your password. Ugh, not fun!

Short-cut for dinner last night. Nobody wanted to cook.

I think I might have gotten one. Yahoo lost my account, and it took weeks for them to fix it. Yesterday was the first time I was able to get back into my email account, and I had 80 unread emails. I think the one you told us about was one of them, but I just deleted it, along with all the somebody did something or other on Facebook. That drives me nuts. There, that's the food connection, nuts.

Thanks for the notice. I found one waiting for me when I got home last night and knew right away to just delete without opening.

I'm having leftover noodles for lunch today and am planning on making nachos for dinner tonight. E-Z day in the food dept.

I was just so happy to hear from you that I did the happy dance all around my kitchen while serving Ken apple juice and lemon ice and other clear liquids as well as a half gallon of some yucky stuff for (I'm sure you can figure out) his you-know-what procedure which he had today.

Pam, the only pic I'm worried about is a Speedo one posted here a couple of years ago to pay off a bet. LOL! Sorry to hear about your friend.

Woodie, sure hope Ken is doing okay today after his not to fun procedure. His first Crown is on me!
