Bathroom colors-wall/trim/vanity/medicine cabinet
My bathroom sucks. The toilet and tub are staying. They're biscuit. Had I known eight years ago that I would wish I'd gone with white, I would've gone with white. However, I grew up in a house that thought white was the devil (OMG IT'S SO HARD TO CLEAN!) and I carried that w/me. Now that I've been looking into things myself for the last many years, I've come to appreciate white. Anyway, for the foreseeable future, I've got biscuit to work with. The flooring will be going, but it will be probably a year before that happens. It will be replaced w/a wood look Super Core SPC flooring. Also-I know the lighting is atrocious-new bulbs will hopefully help that.
I am thinking to do something w/the walls, vanity, medicine cabinets. (the door to the right of the mirror goes to the hall closet and will be removed, so it will just be wall there.) Strip and restain? Sand and paint? A little of both? The shower curtain is luckily easily replaceable as well. The sink is taupe-ish/beige I think, cream, brown, what looks like either dark charcoal or black, and a few sparkly gold flecks scattered willy nilly.

5 years agoOh Missi, such a lovely soft palette. I would see BM Beach glass on your walls, light coloured vanity and if you're a little artistic, painted mirror frame as in image below....

I have a double vanity with two surface mounted medicine cabinets 24 inches wide with a 5 inch depth from the wall and for the life of me I couldn't find a suitable light to extend OVER and beyond the cabinet frame. I found a track light with three bulbs that I think will work but I can mount them on the wall above each cabinet rather than on the ceiling. Comments (2)Mirrored medicine cabinets are a great storage option that does not necessarily look outdated if you find an adaptable design with functionality. And some have customization size options. For example, you can also get customized sizing where cabinets can be ganged together. For example, two 12 inch cabinets ganged together or two 15" ganged together would work where you can add lighting as an option and have interchangeable left or right open doors. It gives you alot of storage over your vanity. They can be recces or surface mounted. And some of these mirrored medicine cabinets have integrated LED lighting, which can also offer a nightlight with dinner function. Comments (12)I have done a box before. In my case, the light fixture ended up on the slanting part of the ceiling and the fixture could not accommodate the slant. So I had my carpenter build a box to match the slant and make a level place for the light to attach. So you can have a box made for behind the light fixture. Others have posted here, asking for help finding a light that protrudes enough, and I don’t think any have been found. Can lights have their own issues above a vanity. They usually make shadows on the face of the person shaving or doing make-up. Light behind you may help. These ceiling lights are very easy to install and they send out the light 360 degrees around, plus, their color can be adjusted. They might help in your situation. One over the shower is nice, too. I found them when doing my bathroom and loved that they need no electrical box behind them and take up only the depth of the ceiling drywall. My builder had used them before and also loved them.
